Chicago Making Ceremonies
I'll be updating this post with more information as I come across it.
This was inspired by JD's blog posts on the 5 Family making ceremonies. Similar to his posts, the dates listed may not necessarily be exact but are indicative of when the information was first reported to law enforcement. Likewise, some individuals may have been inducted at the same time but are listed separately because of differences in the dates reported to the FBI.
Unknown date (pre-1950s)
-Joseph DiVarco (Died 1986) [Sponsored by Anthony Accardo]
1956
-Phil Alderisio (44y) (Died 1971)
-James Allegretti (51y) (Died 1969) [Sponsored by Ross Prio]
-Charles English (42y) (Murdered 1985) [Sponsored by Joseph "Crackers" Mendino]
-Joseph Ferriola (29y) (Died 1989) [Sponsored by Fiore Buccieri]
-Albert Frabotta (45y) (Died 1982)
-Anthony Eldorado (42y) (Died 1975) [Sponsored by William Daddano]
-Vincent Inserro (45y) (Died 1989) [Unknown sponsor but probably Daddano]
-Anthony Maenza (39y) (Died 1986) [Sponsored by Frank Caruso]
-John Varelli (31y) (Died 1985)
Other potential inductees (unconfirmed): Sam English, Leonard Gianola
Pre-1971
-Vincent Solano (52y) (Died 1992) [Unknown sponsor; presumably Ross Prio]
Pre-August, 1973
[Note: This is not the exact date of any known ceremony but according to FBI intelligence, the individuals below were made by at least the time period listed. Also, made members were vetted less thoroughly by the FBI prior to the mid-1980s]
-Salvatore Bastone (38y) (Died 1998) [Unknown sponsor; possibly Fiore Buccieri before his death]
-Richard Cain, a.k.a. Richard Scalzitti (41y) (Informant) (Murdered 1973) [Highly probable that Cain was made earlier; probably with Sam Giancana as sponsor]
-?John Gattuso? (38y) (Murdered 1983) [Gattuso identified as "made" around this time but later intelligence/info listed him as an associate]
-James LaPietra (46y) (Died 1993) [Unknown sponsor; possibly Fiore Buccieri before his death]
-Joseph Lombardo (44y) [Unknown sponsor; possibly Phil Alderisio prior to the latter's imprisonment]
Late 1976/Early 1977
-Frank DeMonte (49y) (Died 1992) [Unknown sponsor; possibly Joseph DiVarco; could be mistaken by Nick C in 1983 as "Frank Belmonte"]
-?Richard Victor Arrigo? (39y) (Confidential Informant by at least the mid-70s) (Died 2012) [Probably sponsored by Joseph DiVarco] [Note: FBI intelligence gives a date of 1975 for DeMonte's making but Arrigo informed the FBI that he was made at the same ceremony as DeMonte. As of September, 1976, the FBI received intelligence from Arrigo who was told by DiVarco that he (Arrigo) would be made sometime in the "immediate future." If DeMonte was made at the same time as Arrigo, this would seem to place the ceremony sometime after September of 1976. Also of interest is that DiVarco informed Arrigo that the Outfit's membership books had been "closed" for several years.]
October 9, 1983
-Frank Belmonte(?) [Sponsored by Vincent Solano; possibly also Frank DeMonte]
-Frank Calabrese, Sr. (46y) (Died 2012) [Sponsored by Angelo LaPietra]
-Nicholas Calabrese (40y) (Flipped 2002) [Sponsored by Angelo LaPietra]
-Nicholas Guzzino (41y) [Sponsored by Dominick Palermo]
-Ernest "Rocky" Infelise (59y) (Died 2005) [Sponsored by Angelo LaPietra]
-James Marcello (41y) [Sponsored by Samuel Carlisi]
-John Matassa, Jr. (32y) [Sponsored by Vincent Solano] [Note: Other sources cite Matassa as being made in 1989 with DeLaurentis; the Nicholas Calabrese intelligence seems to be the more accurate]
-Albert Tocco (54y) (Died 2005) [Sponsored by Dominick Palermo]
-Anthony Zizzo (45y) (Murdered 2006) [Sponsored by Samuel Carlisi]
June 19, 1988
-Anthony Chiaramonti (55y) (Murdered 2001) [Unknown sponsor; probably Samuel Carlisi or James Marcello]
-Peter DiFronzo (55y) [Probably sponsored by John DiFronzo]
-James DiForti (44y) (Died 2000) [Sponsored by James LaPietra]
-Rudolph Fratto (45y) [Unknown sponsor; possibly John DiFronzo]
-Gerald Scarpelli (50y) (Flipped 1989) (Died 1989) [Unknown sponsor]
Summer, 1989
-Salvatore DeLaurentis (51y) [Unknown sponsor; probably Rocky Infelise]

What about Anthony Calabrese?

Re: Chicago Making Ceremonies
I am only going to post those that I have specific information concerning.
Re: Chicago Making Ceremonies
Vena definitely made either in the 90s or maybe the 2000s, possibly by Sarno. If I had to guess, I would say in the 90s but there is no info yet. I wonder what year he got out of prison? It appears that Calabrese was made by Sarno sometime in the 2000. But isn't it not even known for sure if he was made.
Re: Chicago Making Ceremonies
I'm sorry he wasn't in prison in the 90s, but he might have been in jail till he was found not guilty for murder.
Re: Chicago Making Ceremonies
Vena was held without bond from December 1992 to June 1995.

Re: Chicago Making Ceremonies
Except Joseph Ferriola, it seems that the Outfit only did ceremonies of old guys.
Re: Chicago Making Ceremonies
Joseph Lombardo wasn't made in 1973, that's when he was promoted to caporegime to succeed Battaglia. Alva Johnson Rogers testified to this. It's suspected that he was made after the Manny Skar killing.
Re: Chicago Making Ceremonies
I'm just going off of what the files say. That's when he was first confirmed as being made.

Re: Chicago Making Ceremonies
All that is true except Alva Johnson Rogers never referred to Lombardo as a "Caporegime". That is a New York term. Lombardo was referred to as a "Boss", meaning that he was one of the 4 big Territory Bosses. In the same way that Accardo was never called a "Consigliere". Those are New York terms being applied to these people according to Villain and my research.

Re: Chicago Making Ceremonies
He was also referred to as a "Boss", if you read the different transcripts about him. You know this to be true because you have even stated this in the past.Snakes wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 6:35 pmHe was referred to as "capo."Confederate wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 6:31 pmAll that is true except Alva Johnson Rogers never referred to Lombardo as a "Caporegime". Re: Chicago Making Ceremonies
That's true, and "boss" was more prevalent in Chicago. But to state that they "never" used capo is disingenuous. Frank Sr. also uses it on the Jr. recordings.
