I read back then, talking 90s and before, to get made you didn’t have to kill someone with your own hands (gun) but simply just be participating in one, either as a backup shooter, or a getaway driver or as a blocker.
My understanding is everyone involved is taking the same amount of risk, more or less, and so they get the "credit." It's why Gravano claimed 19 murders even though he was the shooter only once.
In terms of it being a requirement to be made, I don't think there would be enough hits needed to insist that the candidate actually pull the trigger.
Yeah exactly my point, most kills that connected guys committed before getting their button was usually a hanger on, or someone who went bad/disrespected a made guy, etc. of course ordered by the boss of that family through the made guy/Captain that the associate was being represented by
