Very tough guy when he was dealing with herbs. When dealing with other tough guys, not so much. But he did tell Joe Ruggiero to fuck off with no consequences. Then again, see above statement

Surprised not to see more on Timmy Mello and Tempest fisheries...lived in New Bedford While fishing and he’s the local legend. Basically took overa fishing fleet and processing plant over gambling/loansharking debts and became a respectable gangster. Wanted to be made despite being Porteguese.
