Was Ligambi that rebuilt the family, re-established relations with NY, convinced the bookies to pay the tribute after Merlino had bet for years without paying them in case of loss.
Merlino was lucky to have a childhood friends that won't flip and for this reason he could stay in Boca without fear that someone in philly would try try to take his seat.
A lucky boss,that's it.

Yes, he’s a south jersey captain last I heard. Not sure if he’s acting or official.

The guy behind Merlino who is walking out of the NYC Courthouse is a South Philly guy named Lou DeAngelo Sr. He's an Associate and runs with the guys in South Philly. He has two sons one named Lou Jr who runs around with the guys downtown and another son named Tony who is actually in the NHL and currently plays for the NY Rangers.
DeAngelo hasn’t been on the rangers for a few years now. He played on Carolina last year (2021-2022 season) and signed with his hometown Flyers this year

Fuck it if I'm in charge of a mafia family I wouldn't mind a lawyer or 2 giving some of the moron guys alittle advice. Think it's a smart strategy. Then just make sure they don't do anything illegal so they don't have to go do hard time and flip.

Yes and he’s also close with Dom G. I’ve seen them out together a lot in South Philly. DePasquale does Real Estate Law and a lot of the Philly guys have real estate investments…..

Semi related but not really. Depasquale follows a few of the same mafia Instagram pages that I follow. Thought that was interesting when I saw him as a mutual follower

Wow. So even being ex law enforcement are not barred. Members are not excluded based on profession whatsoever.
Like everything else it depends on who you know. Take Sal Vitale the ex corrections officer and ex Bonanno family Underboss he got straightened out and turned out to be a rat but a guy like Ronnie Filocomo is barred for same reason yet he’s a stand up guy his whole life.
Good point. As Sal was an in law of Massino, his profession may have been overlooked simply because of interfamilial relations.

What other members had prestigious jobs?
Lawyers, Doctors, Priests, Professors, Ex corrections officers, ex police and I think Chicago had current members who were also police.

Louis Boschetto was a suspected member who was also a United States Senator.

Another suspected member Vito Marcantonio was a Congressman.

Thanks B for the great articles.
Wow. So even being ex law enforcement are not barred. Members are not excluded based on profession whatsoever. It seems the opposite. The better placed job, the more qualified they are assumed to be a member
