Im still very suprised thats the story he chose to make a movie out of.... I figured thered be a Masino movie by now. Same w colombo war. A movie about the killing of Jimmy Hoffa (even based on a dubious source) has more mainstream appeal than a more generic and cliche one about mob crews killing each other in Brooklyn.

Its just not that great of a story and its been told how many times? Its hard to come out with a decent mob flick once you have the Godfather and Goodfella's made so well. Compared to those two movies and even Donnie Brasco looks like a B flick never mind this Gotti flick. It looks like it was made for TV flick. But it all goes back to the story. People already know the story tenfold and they really don't care to hear it again. Donnie Brasco held more interest with the public because it was pretty much an old known story much like Goodfella's. Look at a Bronx tale. such a good movie because its an untold story with great actors. Maybe I am bias but I never had high hopes for this movie the minute I heard it they were making it. I believe there was a Assanti movie about Gotti and one other...neither of which were stand out mob movies like Godfather, Goodfella's or Bronx Tale and both looked like B flicks...why ? Because of the story.People already know it. Gotti was the main character in his own reality show with the public. A movie based on Alite would be interesting. I know a lot of stuff in his book is probably be fiction, but his story running the streets with NY's biggest gangster's son and his crew during that era would be different and interesting. It would probably even be a more realistic depiction of Jr than what we saw in this movie too. Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) was set to direct Scarpa with Sylvester Stallone, but apparently Stallone put it on hold.
