Agreed. I watched the new one and, while it does have a unique and more personal approach, its definitely a B-flick. The 1996 HBO version is still the best Gotti film and did more with less.
No way.... Witness to the mob is the best
With Tom Sizemore as Gotti? Is this tongue in cheek?

Travolta is good. The movie could be good but it was edited by a crack junk and it shows. No way it deserves 0% on rotten tomatoes.

I did like the old news footage in the Travolta one though. Obviously those who follow the mob will notice much of the dialogue is taken from wiretaps and testimony.

For people who follow it its not bad. If you dont this movie makes no sense lol. Jesus did a movie ever need editing.

The movie is terrible, so b rated. Also When you think of Gotti you think of a tough guy & after the allegations about Travolta I have hard time imagining him a tough guy. All the characters were bad & felt so forced to act the Wise Guy role

Its just not that great of a story and its been told how many times? Its hard to come out with a decent mob flick once you have the Godfather and Goodfella's made so well. Compared to those two movies and even Donnie Brasco looks like a B flick never mind this Gotti flick. It looks like it was made for TV flick. But it all goes back to the story. People already know the story tenfold and they really don't care to hear it again. Donnie Brasco held more interest with the public because it was pretty much an old known story much like Goodfella's. Look at a Bronx tale. such a good movie because its an untold story with great actors. Maybe I am bias but I never had high hopes for this movie the minute I heard it they were making it. I believe there was a Assanti movie about Gotti and one other...neither of which were stand out mob movies like Godfather, Goodfella's or Bronx Tale and both looked like B flicks...why ? Because of the story.People already know it. Gotti was the main character in his own reality show with the public.
A movie based on Alite would be interesting. I know a lot of stuff in his book is probably be fiction, but his story running the streets with NY's biggest gangster's son and his crew during that era would be different and interesting. It would probably even be a more realistic depiction of Jr than what we saw in this movie too.

Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) was set to direct Scarpa with Sylvester Stallone, but apparently Stallone put it on hold.

Furman probably put in on hold after seeing how poorly the new Gotti picture
fared at the box office.

The allure of the Gotti story has receded.

I don't know about that. Of course this is all just personal opinion. But if Alite had a say it would be him shooting and killing 3000 people and being a non made member of the admin in the Gambino Family. lol They guy is just too full of himself and full of shit. You gotta take an unknown story based off a something true and get one hell of a director like Scorcese to do it. To behonest...its kinda hard to top the classics already made. Its like what the hell is the point. Its kinda over blown at this point. But this Gotti flick with Staying Alive as Gotti. Its just horrible and a story know gives a shit about. Its been told too many times.

Some time next year. No specific date yet.

A movie about the killing of Jimmy Hoffa (even based on a dubious source) has more mainstream appeal than a more generic and cliche one about mob crews killing each other in Brooklyn.

I agree. The Hoffa story will always be newsworthy/movie worthy
because it will never be officially resolved.
