It was both right? Think Chin's involvement makes people assume it was better thought out than it actually was.

American Gangster, w/Denzel Wash as Frank Lucas, used Pate's exploits in the movie.
Of course the filmmaker used 'poetic license' and changed the scenario. The movie
portrays the NYPD cops stealing it themselves. IIRC

This is a quote from Philip Carlo's book about gaspipe

Gaspipe used the explosive device in order to kill gotti to make the gambinos think the five families had nothing to do with that
But when gigante assigned him to that job did he knew he plan using a bomb ? The comission said something about it ??
