Another story. Have tried to find something in papers from the time but no luck as of yet. But goes like this. In April of 1955 Jefferson Parish Sheriff Frank Clancy was in the hospital. Another man who had a heart attack by the name of Frank Bourg was in the room next to him. Bourg was a 64 year old bank teller. One night someone cut Bourg's skull open with a cleaver, killing him. Bourg was checked out for any type of OC connections but came up clean. Clancy, who had a guard outside his room, had his guard removed that morning by someone claiming to represent his wife. Clancy was a known toadie for Marcello but had, reluctantly, testified before the Kefauver Committee in '51, causing Marcello some embarrassment. Apparently he was again talking to feds and it's theorized that Bourg was killed, mistaken for Clancy (they were around the same age). It had the desired effect though with Clancy clammin up.

Also a bit more on the Bruno murder: Bruno owned a nightclub, Club Orchard, his body was found in the backseat of his car with a thin rope around his neck and his face beaten in. Brothers Sam and Charles Alonze were arrested and held as accessories to the murder but released on the 27th of Sept. No mention of Carollo in the few clippings on it that I found. Bruno had been arrested a few times in connection with narcotics. Most likely clipped in connection with something related. His wife stated that he had said on more than one occasion he was in fear for his life but wouldn't say why.

Cavita, a couple of corrections.

Gambino was clipped in Nov. 1976. Masotto/Mano disappeared Aug. 8 1943, body found in Nov. '43. Siracusa disappeared on Feb. 8 1944, body found April 3 1944.

That's what I get for typin shit out from memory. Lol.

No prob. Happy to pass info along. I know what you mean about Marcello. I have found a new respect for him since I started digging into NOLA history but, yeah, there's a lot more to it than just him.

Forgot about Nick Karno. Though he wasn't Made he was NOLA's Jewish Gangster and tied closely with the Family through Frank Caracci. They owned the famous NOLA restaurant Court of Two Sisters together for a period and possibly two Bourbon St. clubs together, The Famous Door and the 500 Club. In '74 Karno had a Bourbon St. Club called La Strada. A club across the street called Papa Joe's was run for the Conforto's by a guy named Jerry San Filippo. San Filippo had a connected nephew from the DeCalvacante Family in Jersey named Tony Zappia. He was sent down to NOLA because he was a pain in the ass and the idea was for his uncle to take him under wing and straighten him out. Zappia started banging a waitress or bartender in Karno's La Strada Club and hanging out there a lot, causing problems. Karno banned him from the place but Zappia ignored it. Karno gets a call one night that Zappia is there causing problems, Karno goes there to boot him, a fight breaks out and Karno shoots him dead. Karno goes through years of court proceedings and using the old heart ailment tactic along with some probable bribery, ends up with 5 years probabtion and settling out of court a Civil Suit with Zappia's wife who had been left in Jersey. Apparently Marcello had to go through a sit down with the DeCalvacante's over it but eventually, since neither Zappia nor Karno were Made guys and given Zappia's reputation, it was a wash. Karno lived another twenty years with his bad heart.

Another story I heard about Karno but have never been able to find anything to back it up. In the late 60's/early 70's an out of town band was in the backroom of The Famous Door. Karno burst through the door and shoots an unidentified guy if front of the band. Karno yells at them to get the fuck outta town. Which they apparently did and supposedly never returned to NOLA.

Found out a bit of info on Frank Bruno last night. He was last seen in the company of Sam Carollo and Sam Alonze at a restaurant that Alonze owned. Bruno was found strangled in his car. Carollo and Alonze were questioned but nothing ever came of it.

Frank Bruno clipped in 1935. Unknown reason.
Anthony Gambino clipped in 1977. Unknown reason.

Constantino Masotto clipped in 1942. New York mobster who murdered and robbed his own sister. His Family in NY wanted him dead, found out he was in NOLA and passed the request onto Sam Carollo. Marcello himself supposedly did the deed in the Willswood Tavern (later known as Mosca's). His body was found in a shallow grave near the Willswood. Masotto went under the name Gene Mano while in NOLA.

Tommy Siracusa clipped in 1943. Possibly over a bad debt, something to do with a bad drug deal or both. Siracusa was one of the guys that set Masotto up so it possibly could've been something to do with that as well.

There were two guys that Marcello had clipped by the Dixie Mafia in Mississippi. Can't recall exact details but had to do with a casino there. I'd have'ta dig up the info again.

Supposedly there was a Francesco Giacono that was clipped in '44. I'm assuming he was related to one time boss Corrado Giacona but I can't find any info at all on him. There's one in the cemetery here but the dates don't jive.

I'm sure there's more but don't have any info. I suspect the multitude of victims you always hear about is a bit overblown.

Pogo
Sammy Marcello died in April 2003.

Don't know, I know you can't go by a lot of that stuff though. A lot of that info is "iffy" at best.
