What I really meant to say was there was a large Toms River package of Bettors betting into that Sportsbook back in the day. There's no Gambino presence in TR- Toms River area is DeCavalcante, Westside, and Luchesse in that order.

Gambino's in Toms River?? I haven't of anything Gambino in Toms River for a very longtime. Decades. Mostly Westside. Lucchese and allot of DeCav action in Toms River, Forked River, Brick and Bayville. Mostly because 70% of Petersontown moves to the Toms River area like 30yrs ago.

The guys lived in NJ. But the action was out of NY. And most of those guys nabbed in NJ. Moved to NJ from SI. Gambino's are small potatoes in NJ. Genovese and Lucheses have taken over all Gambino action 20yrs ago.

Blue collar shit yeah I'm sure they are keeping tabs on but mostly legit construction away from the Newark FBI offices and Essex and Hudson county in general , the Feds today does not have anywhere near the manpower to stay on top of them.

I'm not saying they are in some kind of growth mode but they likely are getting some solid construction deals in areas that have big work .

The west side has the big Hudson and Essex county construction deals but who are they competing w in union and south nj for work ? Almost no one and who is putting govt resources into complex construction cases away from Newark ? Likely no one . They are probably pretty stable right now and they might even be making some real moves in their construction business as real estate is booming .

They don't seem to big in sports gambling , I mean I'm sure they have shit going on but not the massive $1m a week NFL action WS and Luchese have and even Philly , but i wouldn't be surprised if their real estate dealings are booming.

What I would be curious about is whether their structure with the Gambinos is resulting in the gambinos actually getting envelopes or rather strictly business relationships where DeCav get muscle, especially in sit downs w WS, and additional union connections and gambinos get some work in areas they have almost no presence in. I have almost never heard of a gambino NJ sports book in the last 5 years , very weak NJ activity .
Gambino presence in NJ has been very weak the last 20yrs. Merola has some smalltime shit. But it was really small time. As far as Gambling I don't think they have had anything in a very long long time. I think when the Cabert crew went down they never really rebuilt. They had a few aging older members that were not serious earners. Like Mita and a few others. I think the Gambino's focused on expanding in Long Island rather then NJ to be honest. Having the Decavs under them gave them some special leadway into Construction in NJ because the Decav despite loosing that local still are very much involved in Construction in NJ. Many Companies are tied to the Decavs.

Not that I know anything or anyone cares lol but small correction to the borderline nonsense I said above, lol, as there seems to be a gambino book in Nj I know of, shows how out of the loop I am . Not sure it's indicitive of anything but it's a pretty crappy book in terms of lines and options, no where near a WS book that has in game MLB action now , with lines available after most outs lol .

Allot of the older members are dying off and in poor health. Charlie Ears is old, Vitabile is very old as well. I would look at Consalvo and Abramo as the future leaders in the next 5yrs. Maybe Louie Eggs fronting for Abramo till Abramo is off of restrictions. These guys were the money makers in the family. Pulling in millions in stock fraud and dozens of other scams and rackets. These older guys that were arrested in a retirement villages are in the 4th qtr.
Just my two cents..
Is Merlo III a captain?

Also, how large is the DeCav family today? A 2004 report listed it as 40 made men but that's likely changed by now.

As a side note, is the Chicago Outfit's size only 25-30 made men? I've seen that figure being posted around on the internet, seems ridiculously low.
There were at least three different law enforcement officials who put the Outfit at 25-30 members over the past decade or so. Two of them put the associate count at 75 and over 100. So, in terms of total size and manpower, the modern day Outfit is close to New England or Philadelphia. And according to a few articles this, at least in part, has been by design and not only a result of attrition and prosecutions.
Supposedly difronzo is the one who stopped making members. After marcello took over as boss and continuing through sarno they apparently started making guys again.
