Actually IT IS explained on the DVD/Blu-Ray. It tells the story of Whitey plus how they based it off the triad movie.

I was suprised no one mentioned anything about the movir brooklyn banker. Its new. Its all sopranos cast with also paul sorvino... Not true story but good.

Small tidbit... Departed is actually a triad movie remake called infernal affairs. Idk scorsese never explains that... Its a re make to the t.

Also, if gotto jnr gives his approval i think it might be pretty good... He does look like him.

And im glad the michael mann is still doing his movie and think that it might even be decent. They could cover so much.... Dont even know what periods theyd focus on the most... Probably like castro - giancanas death.

Theres a way better bulger movie that one of the baldwin brothers did called Vendetta. They dont say its whitey but its obvious.

Has anyone seen ONE DEADLY ROAD? The casso movie with demeo kid

Plus it's Frank Stallone.

Pogo, I agree, Depp looked ludicrous.

I agree. Creating his own persona of Whitey is what dramatizes and makes for a more creative film IMO. However, it may have worked better in a fictionized film like The Departed. If you weren't expecting an identical Whitey, I thought Depp played a very dark role.
I thought the acting was good but was just a two star movie at best...

Many many many reports of John Travolta paying off male escorts and male masseuse's for sexual assault...something tells me Gotti never went down that road. Travolta loves cock sandwiches according to testimony and lawsuits.

Going back to Travolta playing Gotti, you know, he's such a strange looking guy anymore he looks more normal in character then as his real self.

I think it makes a difference if the character is well known. Most of us would have issues if Abraham Lincoln was played by a short beardless guy, or George Washington by a dark-haired bearded actor. Joe Pesci got away with playing Thomas DeSimone because few people knew what the real DeSimone looked like. When Pesci played Spilotro, on the other hand, he was made to look like him since Spilotro was familiar to a lot of people. People know what Whitey Bulger looks like and they also know what Accardo looked like. When John Turturro played Sam Giancana in Sugartime it worked, not only because of his acting, but because there was a facial resemblance. But actor Maury Chaykin didn't look anything like Accardo so for me he wasn't believable. For me it would have been better if they'd picked someone else to play the role of Accardo. In the case of Stallone playing him, the jury's out since we haven't seen him in make up and in character.
Well said.

Well to me it's dumb to want to look for Accardo yet nobody even remotely looks like him.

And I agree on Depp's voice. He sounded nothing like someone out of Southie. They made him out to sound sick from the start and that killed it for me. Granted I still watch it when I'm bored, but I watch The Departed more than Black Mass.
