John Binder doesn’t seem like the most credible source, but he is a local who has some remote access to those who would know

This Doug guy is clearly the most credible and trustworthy source on the matter, so his word should be taken as bond in my opinion
Well, he is the Special Agent in Charge in Chicago so he knows something. That is a very strong statement to say that they are “very viable”. The last special agent in charge said they were running on fumes. This one says they are very viable. Does that indicate a resurgence? With law enforcement on all levels downsizing or even disbanding their organized crime units, I would say that’s very possible.

John Binder is said to be an expert on Outfit matters but is he really? What sources does he have? He’s more of a historian in my opinion.

Calabrese is not really in the know now and never really was. His father is the one that gave him all of his information. He didn’t have a good reputation when he was involved in the Outfit through his dad. He was known as a Drug addict and thief. I don’t think any legit associate or member would speak or associate with him now. He also is very clear in that he claims he only gave up his father and nobody else. I’m sure he doesn’t want to anger him he guys still on the street and give them a reason to go after him.
I completely agree with everything you’re saying and you are the most on the ground Outfit source we have here. I agree that it’s a huge statement on his part. Didn’t the Cassano/Galione case reveal that the CCC still exists? This new guy is a local who obviously would have inside horses who know what is what.

Binder is indeed a historian with loose sources. He’s a poor man’s bernsteen, only he doesn’t focus on LCN outside of Chicago

I highly disagree that Junior C was never in the know. Not only was he in the know, but he was raised in the trenches in the motherland. He knew a lot, and although he may be currently out of the loop, he knew what was what back then. And whenever he’s asked about Chinatown or current players, he stumbles over his words and gets visibly discombobulated. He blatantly stated in a televised visit to Elmwood that he would never receive the same welcome there as he would in Bridgeport. This wasn’t all that long ago. To me, he’s clearly keeping a lot of info close to the vest, and obviously he still has a LOT of familial relations to present outfit people. He wasn’t straightened out, obviously, but he was around many guys who were and were privy to a lot of inner workings

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to hear that he was told by the Feds to ignore certain guys and to downplay activity in order to make them more loose and vulnerable

The Doug guy has no allegiance to anyone and wouldn’t have any reason to bullshit
Ok let me clarify. Jr was in the know bc of his father. But if his Uncle Nick, a made guy, was not in the know on issues like who’s made and who’s not then Jr wouldn’t either unless his father told him.

Agree to disagree on that. I think he was still consigliere or chairman of the board or whatever you want to call it. That "interview" happened in 2009. According to Goudie, Difronzo was said to meet at that restaurant every Friday at noon (which was secretly owned by Bobby Abbinante, by the way), and while Goudie didn't identify everyone present at the lunch, he did identify Marco D'Amico and the two other Difronzo bros as being present. Difronzo was also literally walking around the table at that lunch and serving everyone pizza himself. Always seemed like more than a lunch between old friends to me.
And they met at Chickies on Roosevelt up until he died. They stopped meeting at the Loon cafe after that and started going to Chickies. More about friends meeting then business but that’s not to say some schemes and orders didn’t come out of those meetings
Also the Panera on wolf/Cermak lol. Remember going to get a coffee there sometimes and all the boys were holding court there
That's where one of those photos of Chris Spina was snapped at with Marco D'Amico - Panera lol.

Lets just say hypothetically speaking he's trying to protect those guys since he truly didn't rat to hurt anyone but his father. If that is the case it would make sense why he claims they are all legit, even though we know they were not and are still a very viable organization.

The idea the Frank Calabrese Jr. has ANY knowledge of the Outfit in 2025 is comical.

No, it means we shouldn't isolate a single statement apart from all other applicable evidence. For example, in 2011 the feds said the LCN was still a significant threat and the top organized crime threat in New England. A little over a decade later, they disbanded the FBI organized crime squad in Boston.

Binder seems to be taking his four crews from what was previously reported 15 years ago.

Binder is a historian and I've spoken to him before (I believe Antiliar also has). He knows a lot about the Outfit as a criminal organization (especially the Prohibition time period), but less so about the organization in the nexus of LCN. I'm certain he at least has sources in local law enforcement.

That’s the survivor’s club that meets there. Most of those guys are just guys from the neighborhood that are members from the Taylor and May club that Aleman the rest of the guys were members of.

The segment called “The Mobs last supper or not” was aired originally on the 6pm news. Just watched a rerun of it and the FBI SAC definitely says the outfit is still very viable which most of us knew. Says they are still involved in illegal things like gambling and narcotics. Binder says that juice loans is their big thing now and they still dabble in labor racketeering and other things. Calabrese Jr said they all went legit and that there is no organization.
Would have been interesting the SAC gave a membership estimate, but I'd understand if that's something they want to keep close to the vest.
