Ok, how did I miss this. Bellomo must be the redacted name in the DEA report I have on the incident.
The Mancuso shooting involved Purple Gang members.
As I wrote in Hitmen, "It stemmed from a dispute between Filippone and two other Gang members- Anthony Maiorino and Michael Mancuso. Maiorino was the son of narcotics supplier and Gang associate Salvatore Maiorino. Relations between the three men deteriorated rapidly.
In the early morning of April 4, 1976, Filippone and some friends were at the Capri Lounge on Williamsbridge avenue in The Bronx. The Capri was a popular hangout for members of the Gang, including Pasquale Prisco and Frank Viserto Jr.
Anthony Maiorino entered with Michael Mancuso. Unbeknownst to them, Filippone saw them and made his move. He walked up to Maiorino and shot him dead at the bar. Mancuso ran outside, Filippone hot on his tail, chasing him down Williamsbridge Road. Filippone shot at Mancuso, hitting him in the back and wrist. Mancuso was unable to draw his weapon and shoot back, because it was in an ankle holster. Finally, Mancuso ducked around a corner and grabbed his gun .
As Filippone rounded the same corner, he ran right into Mancuso, who shot Filippone in the chest. Mancuso ran off and Filippone staggered back to the Capri. Filippone returned to his compatriots at the Capri, where he was taken to the nearby Jacobi hospital and dumped outside. Filippone died on the pavement before being taken inside.
Filippone’s wake took place on April 7th at the Giordano Funeral Home in the Bronx, with a funeral mass at the nearby St. Benedict’s Church, a neighborhood institution since the 1920s. Coincidentally, Maiorino’s funeral mass was also at St. Benedict’s, the day after."
