AntComello wrote: Tue Sep 13, 2022 4:15 am Well I’m talking modern times. The mob these days isn’t doing drive bys and wacking people all the time. I’m saying that a mob controlled neighborhood is safer then a neighborhood controlled by say the bloods. Not Like there is many mob controlled neighborhoods left anyway. And back in those days crime was rampant all
Over the city (seems like those days are coming back)
Mob is mostly middle class nowadays, of course those neighborhoods are gonna be safer
Very true and just my opinion but if I had an option I’d take the neighborhood where a bunch of mob guys live over a bunch a gang leaders lol but hey that’s just me
Well, that's my point, there really aren't any more mob "controlled" neighborhoods. When there were, they extorted businesses and took advantage of those who hadn't ingratiated themselves with the mob. It was only safer for those not related to or associated with the mob.
I agree , Staten Island is still a heavy neighborhood but the last

But that's the thing. It's a ridiculous comparison. It's not a one or the other situation. I'd rather live in a neighborhood where trapeze artists live over a bunch of gang leaders. One's got nothing to do with the other. Having a bunch of mob guys live in your area doesn't make anything safer. Police/neighborhood outreach/good schools/high employment....these keep a neighborhood safer statistically.

The mob, at certain times and to certain degrees, may have made the immediate areas where many members themselves lived, i.e. certain neighborhoods safer. But obviously not a whole city. And on the whole, the mob only adds to the overall level of crime. Whatever limited positives their neighbors may have enjoyed, it was clearly a huge net negative for society in general.

You are rooting for more organized crime?
It’s better then street gangs
It's not a one or the other option.
That’s true but a city under the umbrella of the mob is going to much safer then a city u der the umbrella of the bloods. But I know this is 1970 anymore lol
Well look at Brookly in the 80s and 90s. You had Colombo/Bonanno street gang farm teams doing street crime. Selling crack, robbing, assaulting. The idea that the mob keeps neighborhoods safe is just a romanticized myth.

No it's not. When the mob was still at its peaks places like NY, Chicago, Newark, Philly, Detroit, etc. were still some of the most dangerous cities in the country. The mob only makes things worse.

The recent Mazzone wing of Philly LCN’s indictment will show you what’s going on currently out of AC.

The rat AP was operating out of the AC Area.

A few of the guys in the Mazzone Wing of the Family’s indictment were operating out of AC area as well, read through it.

I think the real rackets for AC were during the days when Scarfo was there and they were building and staffing the casino's. That's when NY really had any kind of interest there. Unions.etc. After the Demise of Scarfo, the Mayor getting indicted etc. They really kicked LCN out of politics and the unions there. It never recovered. You might have to drug dealing and some gambling action. The sports book they had running out of the poker room in the Borgata is a good example..But nothing where they are involved in unions or construction...or even corruption.
