This is what I mean sometimes when I talk about the Naples clans. The strongest clans are amongst the strongest families in Italy in general, irreguardless of what organization. These are not weak organizations, and they arnt some mindless youth gangs either.

It's the same point I tried making awhile back about the Catania clans, but it came out wrong.... those are amongst the strongest families in the mafia.....

Sicilian mafia families controlled teen gangs since forever, if not direct control, then its high influence over them, teen gangs are like preschool of organized crime.Sicilians also control various immigrant groups selling drugs in Palermo.

Whole Zen neighborhood is a mess, its a ghetto. In September last year those kids organized a "duel" in broad daylight in Zen , it was a shootout between 2 groups supported by different mafia families.
The teen gangs like the Sibillo clan born because the old bosses and the old clan members went to jail and they eant to the take power with the "stese" aka go shooting in the rival hoods for show their power. Many clans had this problem especially if are small are located in few blocks in Naples.
Do you have any info on a clan in Marcianise
The Belforte clan have the control of Marcianise. The clan despite was a Cutolo ally was so strong that the Casalesi never tried to attack it. In the recent years due the 41 bis to the old bosses, the Casalesi tried to do something but the Belforte men gave an expensive Bulgari watch to the boss Michele Zagaria and peace was sanctioned.

The Licciardi are part of the Alliance of Secondigliano with the Mallardo and Contini clan. Maria Licciardi was the inspiration for Scianel character in Gomorrah TV series.

I would say Casalesi hands down , Camorra lacks the connections that Sicilians and 'Ndrangheta have , Camorra clans disappear and appear in every few years, in recent years it got worse , you have clans made up of literally teenagers.

Casalesi structure are similar to Sicilians , also Nuvoletta clan similar to Sicilians , some members for Nuvolettas were made both into Camorra and Cosa Nostra.
How is the Camorra initiation ritual? What are the differences with LCN?
It's more closer to Ndrangheta than LCN I think. The first mechanism of affiliation is the family. Then, the neighborhood, then, it's what ever you do that can bring value to the organization.

Also, Dont misunderstand and think those gangs of teens are the real clans. The clans control them. This was a major point in the Gomorra movie, and season 3 of the show too. This was also one of the reason I posted recently that Sicilian article. There was a lot of that in there, sicilian clans controlling drug dealing gangs of teens. I was hoping to discuss the similarities, but it always falls on deaf ears.

The Camorra dont have making ceremonies and is horizontal without a hierarchy like the mafia or the ndrangheta (the only one who tried to create a top-down organization was cutolo but failed) this is the reasons why there is so many feuds and so many rats.
The Mazzarella in the early 2000s lost most of it territory that passed to the Orlando and Polverino clan that was parts of the Nuvolettas and becomed independent.

In Al D'Arco's book Mob Boss he mentioned the American Camorra had initiation ceremonies in the early 1900s. Why did they stop with the ceremonies?

"The Navy Street Gang, as the tabloid papers dubbed the crew controlling those streets, earned its first headlines in the late twenties. On trial for the shooting deaths of two men gunned down at the corner of Johnson and Navy Streets, “Tony the Shoe Maker” sat confidently in the dock. Witnesses against him suddenly remembered nothing. Didn’t he recall, a witness named “Buffalo Mike” was asked by a prosecutor, telling a grand jury about his initiation into the secret society called the Camorra? How his initiator had slit open a vein in his arm and sucked a small taste of blood from the wound? How he had explained that this was the “Brotherhood of the Blood"?"
The American camorra is another thing respect the modern day camorra.
In the 1800s the Bella Società Riformata had a pyramidal scheme but in the 1900s didn exist anymore and apart Cutolo with the NCO,the Camorra never had a making ceremony or a piramidal scheme because the clans dont want to recognize somebody below them.
Even the Casalesi are unite but divided in various families:Bidognetti,Schiavone,Zagaria etc.
Yes, the old Camorra in Naples was smashed by the police and Italian government in the early 1900s. I’ve wondered to what degree the Camorra organizations in rural Campania persisted, as they weren’t taken down in the same way that the urban Camorra of Naples was. On the other hand, I don’t know to what degree the rural phenomena had parallel structured or practices to the urban “Bella Società”. From what I understand, the modern Camorra was a post-WW2 recreation and I don’t know what if any substantial continuity it had with the older organization apart from the name.

Even if the modern Camorra does not practice a formal initiation ceremony, does it still mark membership in a strict sense? I’m thinking of the instances where American LCN families forewent the traditional induction ceremony. Even when that was dispensed with, they still had a very formal and well-defined definition of who was a “member”, regardless of whether a guy had his finger pricked or not.
The rural camorra was focused on the control on the various food market and onl was only in 1950s with economic miracle that expanded his rackets in the constructions and cigarette smuggling but the real turning point was the heroin traffick. Of course the more little clans can do more but the Nuvolettas of Marano was so powerful to be inducted in the sicilian mafia.
For the membership question, the Camorra clan was very close so many members has grown in the hood or in the city so at some point are recognized as members without any formality.

As Furio already pointed out, the Camorra, at least in urban Naples, basically ceased to exist as such in the early 1900s due to intense LE pressure in Italy. So the modern Camorra in Naples was a recreated phenomenon. The old “Camorra”-type organizations or networks in the US composed of Napolitani and Calabresi were essentially absorbed whole cloth by LCN, prominent examples being evident in NYC (particularly with the Genovese), Chicago, Pittsburgh, and I would imagine Philly as well.

In a really fascinating turn of events, in 1930 a scholar received a copy of a centuries-old Bible written in vernacular Greek. Dunned the “Argos Lectionary”, this old Greek Bible had been in the possession of the Greek proprietor of Jim Colosimo’s restaurant in Chicago and was stated to have been used for the purposes of “swearing an oath” by Colosimo and his organization. Given the very strong Greek imprint in Calabrian culture (the word ‘Ndrangheta is of course itself of Greek derivation) it is certainly evocative that Colosimo apparently used this ancient text for some sort of ceremonial purpose.

There is none and has not existed since the early 20th century.
