Italian authorities are the ones who told the Dutch police to arrest the man so some Italians did believe it was him.

I think he meant Italian police ,according to article , they acted on tip from Italian police.

I don't think Matteo leaves Italy often , according to some pentiti he left Italy a few times: to get plastic surgery and to get eye surgery because of his bad vision and that's about it. I think he stays in Sicily-Calabria route.

This article is in Dutch, but it says the lawyer Van Kleef is an old buddy of the arrested individual. It would explain why a tourist from Liverpool has a hot shot lawyer.

Yes, it's the same article. Far as i can tell there's only a few extra lines explaining the supposed Englishman's presence in the Netherlands (apparently because of the Zandvoort Gran Prix)...
