lucchese member johnny petrucelli refused to kill gus farace when amuso and casso told him to.. he ended up getting whacked over the refusal obviously.
He kind of had a point. Outside of him being a friend, he was quoted as saying "why are we doing the cops job?" - i guess when it comes to the bosses being spooked all bets are off. What's weird is that in D'Arco's book it says the cops had pulled Amuso over twice and were harassing him about Farace. It wouldn't have taken much to realize Farace wasnt with the Luccheses. There were other guys who could have gotten a drop on Farace too (like the Bonnanos he knew, or even the Scarpas who he was supposedly related to). It's weird the Luccheses stepped up and got involved with that.
i figure the cops were putting pressure on all the high level guys to get the word out that they were serious, and petrucelli was the one actually hiding farace so taking care of it kinda goes to the luccheses by default.

crazy part i think allie boy genuinly liked wild bill from what i read. that was his choice to make him underboss. i was reading he would meet with him often. something happend to wild bill in miami, some type of slight from another member towards wild bill and allie put a hit out on the guy. if he never gets indicted for that gun case on the boat in florida i dont think he would have killed wild bill. i wonder if bill really had any plans to try to take over the family. only mikey scars says he had ambition or some shit. like pogo said he was gonna get indicted anyway

I think his crew alone was larger than the entire persico faction. GohnJotti has amazing info about this
It would be very cool if they made a film about the third war in the Colombo family)))at least a documentary

I wonder if Carmine the Snake advised his son to have Bill killed. If so he must have felt like quite the asshole as his kid ended up with a life sentence.

If I remember right he was about to be indicted himself when he was killed. So in the long term probsbly nothing would have changed.

I feel like Wild Bill as Boss, the Colombo’s would of been in a better state.

Did his son quit the life?
I'm not sure an Underboss qualifies as a 'rising star' but he certainly was a gangsters gangster.

Good discussion in this thread with extremely detailed retelling by Gohn.

There was bad blood between him and the Persicos after the third war, and Allie Boy was worried about Cutolo trying to take over the family while he was in prison.

His son became an informant after his murder.
