DeMartino was inducted into the family in early 1991.

In general, what was DeMartino reputation, did he have respect among the mobsters?
He was incredibly feared, according to Giovanni Floridia, especially after the attempted Campanella hit. Floridia - who was decidedly less feared - testified that he began receiving respect from made members and non-made members alike after the Campanella hit.
DeMartino was on the outs with Cutolo in the late '90s, but still held his own as an influential member close to John DeRoss.
EDIT: DeMartino was apparently promised a promotion to captain if he whacked Campanella, but that never happened. He was not a tremendous earner, and lacked 'street smarts.' He was feared due to his reputation as a 'killer.' When Floridia was first introduced to a recently-released DeMartino in the late '90s by John Cerbone, Cerbone introduced DeMartino as somebody who had done work for the family, who was looking to build a crew. Floridia (who later became DeMartino's driver and right-hand) viewed DeMartino as unhinged, erratic, and capable of murdering anyone. Floridia was probably exaggerating a bit in his assessment - for instance, he also testified that he thought DeMartino might murder him on the spot after the Campanella hit. I personally don't believe Floridia actually believed this would happen.
