Yeah, you have to figure with how many future mafia members had boxing careers, one of them was bound to be successful.
I've seen Canzoneri listed as a deceased Bonanno member in FBI files from the 1970s, so the FBI was aware of it long before Bonanno's book (though Bill did cooperate with the FBI in the 1960s, so maybe he told them then). The photo with Joe Bonanno shows he was close to the boss.
The New Orleans Gaglianos were from Agrigento, so not related to the NYC Gaglianos from Corleone.
The Canzoneris might have been from Prizzi, near Corleone, but can't confirm.
