Capo Augustino (Crazy Augie) Cataldo, a Brooklyn-born and raised wiseguy who could have followed relatives into the Colombo or Luchese families, but instead chose to follow the lead of cousins Carmine and Peter Romano into the Genovese family, died in October. He was 77.

The Romanos were famously convicted of racketeering for running the Genovese crime family's interests in the Fulton Fish Market, back when it was actually near Fulton Street, and they spent some time in stir. So did Crazy Augie's relatives in the Colombo and Luchese families — Dominick (Little Dom) Cataldo and Alfonso (Tic) Cataldo. Crazy Augie likewise spent some time behind bars before he cashed in his chips.

But Cataldo enjoyed his golden years as a distinguished member of the Genovese family's Garden State wing. His survivors include his wiseguy son, Peter (Scarface) Cataldo.
That part stood out to me but I wasn't clear if he was saying Cataldo was a current captain over a New Jersey crew, just living in New Jersey, etc.

They will have whores serving drinks, massages, and sexual services. I hear they’re extremely profitable because they get the house casino money, profit on the booze markup, a cut from the whores performing sexual services, and all while acquiring new loansharking clients via the players.

These floating casinos also extremely rarely ever get busted as they’re in private homes. The only real worry they have is that robbers will target these floating casinos.

I have been to a few floating casinos here in Jersey over the years and personally I would rather just make the drive to AC.
I think you and I were probably hitting the same floating Casino's back in the day. In Morris county and off Bloomfield have. Russian Strippers as Cocktail girls  Good Times

Makes sense as NJ basically belongs to Westside at this point . My guess is LI is more wide open

Carlo Tacetta is made but I’m not sure of his status after that weed bust .

I here what you are saying but I don’t see them ever letting NJ attrition out , it’s a cash cow for the family . I wonder if Mike Perna was captain before he died ? You have to think Ralph is the captain today
Rumor mill had the youngest as the acting last I heard. That could have changed with the NJ Housewife Indictment.. Carlo has a legit biz that he ran because he went to jail for the weed bust..pretty sure he has been out. I am not sure how involved he is even before the weed bust. If he is he does his thing and kicks up. But he was not part of that 2007 bust father lives in Toms River don't know how involved he is either. Allot of old LCN guys living in Toms River retirement communities these days lol
Makes sense as Joe probably fucked over more people along the way. I do wonder how active Mike was planning to be.

Yeah , seems big changing of the guard the last couple years.
What was he when he died? 78? Not sure how long his restrictions were etc. He pretty much an adviser for his brother all these yrs. While Mike was made decades before Ralph. Ralph was always around and worked in Mikes rackets. Before Mike went away he was involved in allot of different stop besides Bookmaking. He was serious player in the vending machine/video poker machines. He had partners all over in that biz. I always envisions him being Capo.

I'm not sure what other rackets the Luccheses have in New Jersey, but the sports book that the Jersey faction operates is enough by itself to justify bringing in new members as the old ones die off.
Its more about just building a vast network of bookies then made guys. etc. The Westside has allot of non made guys get busted running sports books etc
What is the financing/accounting behind running a floating casino?

They still need people to manage that network and collect money from the bookies, which is what captains and soldiers do. The associates who run bookmaking operations for the Genovese family ultimately answer to a made member.

I stand corrected. Seems the feds still carried Gerardo as the official head of the crew, with DePhilips as his acting capo.
Yeah, it looks like DePhillips was only acting skipper. And later, Gerardo put DeVita in same postition. If my memory is correct, DeVita was made pretty late...mid or late 1990s.

Below is an excerpt from a Star Ledger article at the time of his arrest

The man described as acting boss of one of New Jersey's most powerful organized crime factions was arrested by the FBI early yesterday on sweeping racketeering charges. The arrest, federal authorities said, should decimate the already hard-hit operations of the Genovese crime family in the state. Thomas ''Pee Wee'' DePhillips, 68, who authorities say took the reins of Genovese operations once controlled by legendary godfather Ruggiero ''Richie the Boot'' Boiardo, was taken into custody at his Belleville home.

In a series of related raids, FBI agents arrested five alleged associates, including two identified as made members of the Genovese family. One of the five was identified as a former Newark police officer. The six were charged with taking part in a violent multimillion-dollar gambling and loansharking operation with tentacles in both New Jersey and New York. U.S. Attorney Faith Hochberg said DePhillips stepped in to take over the operation for one-time Boiardo associate Andrew Gerardo, who has been portrayed as heir to the Boiardo crime empire. Gerardo is in failing health and has been living in semi-retirement in Florida. DePhillips, authorities charged, took over day-to-day operations in 1992, following his release from prison on state charges. Although assuming the mantle of leader, he remained answerable to Gerardo, they said

I stand corrected. Seems the feds still carried Gerardo as the official head of the crew, with DePhilips as his acting capo.
