I think bruno had a ton of legit business, again, supposedly. A pizza parlor, auto salvage, and i think he was set up as a vendor at the Brooklyn Terminal Market. D'Arco was the one who said he couldn't read or write, but was a "sharp guy"

I agree on Trinchera. I'm not sure where i read/heard that but that's why i said supposedly. I have an older in law who managed to buy a home and run a business in Brooklyn and still to this day does not speak English but they aren't illiterate. I frankly find it hard to believe that anyone in LCN from that era (born in 20s-40s and/or born in USA) would be completely illiterate

I think so. It was the first book on them. Written in the 1990’s. They had lots of dialogue from the wire tapes in the Angiolo’s office. Carmen Tortora came up there to say goodbye and they were offering him wine and one of them said they would get him a TV because he couldn’t read. Maybe it was Danny or one of the brothers. Or it was Larry Zannino. I remember it though.

I checked and Facciolo was born December 30, 1936. Don't know where but probably the US.

Bruno Facciola (sp) was supposedly illiterate, along with Dominick Trinchera

Can't find any info on when or where Bruno was born. Born in Italy at the turn of the century and you're illiterate throughout your life? That makes sense. But if he was born in the US , in NYC, even if it was during the 10s/20s/30s... that's pretty bad...

I remember the book on the Boston Mob, Underboss Genaro Anguilo had a mobster named Carmen Tortora to their office before he went to prison. They told him they would send him a TV when he was in prison because he couldn’t read.

Have you seen some of the posts on this site?

Not being able to read/write.
You know of any to add to the list???

Personally I don’t know if any, I know Sammy was dyslexic,he might not be great at reading or writing and could be performing at like a grade school level... but I think he can read and write the basics...

I wonder how his dyslexia affected him when it came to counting money... honestly. Cause in one of his new interviews he was talking about his dyslexia saying how numbers looked different to him. Like a 3 looked like an 8 and a 8 looked like a 3 and so on....

Sammy Gravano is dyslexic and not having gone to high school has nothing to do with being illiterate. At the beginning many immigrant mafiosi couldn't read and write in Italian and barely understood how to speak in english.

I think Henry Hill, Sammy the Bull, a lot of them didn’t even make it to high school
