Makes sense to me, Tommy.

I've been wondering if John Ambrosio was acting captain of Mastrangelo's crew because Mastrangelo was struggling with heart problems and it was a Queens based crew Ambrosio was running.

He's an interesting figure to me because he was one of the few Sicilian associates we know about who was operating in the US recently. Curious to know if he's been made in Sicily and if he is still considered a high-level target by Italian/US authorities.
He was indicted as a soldier, wonder if he is a zip
You're right he was indicted as a soldier, my bad. If by zip you mean a member of the 18th avenue crew, then no. Looking at the great Gambino Sicilian Faction General Discussion thread from a few years ago, B mentions "Felice also said Napoli was in the crew of Dominick Pizzonia and then Louis Mastrangelo, which is interesting. Was he placed in that crew to keep an eye on him or was there some other reason Napoli ended up with that group?"

I know next to nothing about the Gambinos but I am almost 100% sure that I read somewhere, I think Gang Land, that various members from other crews were placed under Mastrangelo because Mastrangelo was a brokester who couldn’t earn for himself.
Don't remember seeing that gangland. Was it recent
Not various members of his crew, but at least one member was placed with Mastrangelo for financial reasons, it appears. Don't know if this applies to Gaetano Napoli.

Gang Land from August 25, 2011:
In court papers, prosecutors wrote that shortly after Frogiero, 44, was “made,” Howard Santos, a longtime JoJo Corozzo associate who was cooperating with the FBI, learned that attorney Corozzo had told Vinny Carwash that he “would be placed in the crew of co-defendant Louis Mastrangelo rather than the crew of co-defendant Alphonse Trucchio.”

Since their indictment on Mafia Takedown Day in January, Trucchio, 34, Mastrangelo, 67, Corozzo, 69, and Vinny Carwash, whose family also owns an Italian restaurant and an Italian ices and ice cream store, have all been detained as dangers to the community as they await trial.

In a tape-recorded July 1, 2009 conversation, Trucchio crew member Tony DiMartino told Santos that Trucchio had wanted Frogiero, “a big moneymaker” to be part of his crew, and had “sent a message” to Corozzo imploring him to “keep (Frogiero) with me,” wrote prosecutors Elie Honig, John Zach and Daniel Chung.

Vincenzo FrogieroIn the end, DiMartino said, the mobster “did the right thing” by placing him with the aging capo because Mastrangelo was strapped for cash. “He’s a fucking brokester,” said DiMartino.
Thanks Gohn, I think he was close to Vernace and got his crew when he got bumped to consig?

he was made in sicily (pagliarelli family)and his father was a made member too
Is that Settimo Mineos family?
yes
HIGHLY fuckin interesting...... so he might have been a representative of Mineo, who we know was planning trips to America and meeting with the Inzerillos in Sicily.
With Cali as the converging point, he was basically the New John Gambino it seems....

That's the family that Lupo-Motisi relatives were affiliated with in 1890.
Really interesting stuff, thanks scagghiuni and CC. I've been reading the FBI and media press releases from Settineri's 2010 arrest, I can't find him listed as a made member. I'm assuming he was deported and made in Sicily sometime after 2010? felice mentioned that the Napoli's are from Villabate and they were very close to Salvatore Montalto, underboss of Salvatore Inzerillo. Is there a connection between the Pagliarelli family and the Inzerillo group?

CC - appreciate the insight regarding the Lupo-Motisi connection. Fascinating these relationships still exist in some form.
