I never understand these questions. Isn't the fact what they do is illegal justifiable enough for a guy to rat?

My wife had an SBA card due to a workplace connection, neither of us are related or socially close to any NYPD. Everyone in her job position was given one by a local sergeant, so I would guess there are plenty of people in NYC driving around with PBA/SBA cards given that kind of thing plus the tons of people with familial and social connections. When she was pulled over she didn’t bother showing it for the reason newera emphasized — it’s as likely to piss them off as help you out, unless you have a close connection to someone in their precinct or something. I have some close friends in LE (not NYPD) here in New York who certainly don’t recommend trying to use these things as “get out of jail free” cards as it is insulting and obnoxious. Again, you have to really know someone who really matters to the cop stopping you. Maybe things are different in Detroit.

My little conspiracy???

Did I not just post a article explaining that family members have not only the BENEFITS of being related to a cop but they carry fuckin get out of jail free cards!?!?

For Christ sake... You r a fuckin cop.
What do u??
Let me guess....
A security guard or maybe a customer service employee... Bc u sure act like em

There are PBA, SBA, DEA and several other NYPD ‘cards’ given to family members and friends and frankly, they dont really do shit. The cop pulling you over could be offended that you’re even flashing one and take it or tell you to put it away. People talk themselves INTO tickets with the little slick handing the PBA card underneath a license. Unless you know a cop with juice, and the cop you happen to be dealing with knows them or knows of them... those cards are a complete crapshoot. Having a brother in precinct in Brooklyn doesnt mean you’re gonna get out of running a red light in the Bronx. It all depends. Theres no such thing as a get out of jail free card for regular people who are related to regular run of the mill cops
Well..... I'll take my chances with whatever card any day over not having it

And I'm sure not many cops get offended when seeing them..... it kinda like going into your local stores and saying "ya I know sal" for that little bit extra customer care.

It gives you that extra up....
It could give you an extra up - that's true - but when every other customer comes in saying they know Sal, it gets annoying after a while lol
But that the point my dude....

Every/any one can know sal.

But u have to BE RELATED to be in the card club.

Ur almost there tho lol
I'm not related to any cops, but I have two different cards - both hard plastic cards that you keep forever (they're only good for the calendar year actually, they get reissued each year) , not the "one use" tearaway cards that I haven't seen exist in my lifetime. Both of my cards have a signature from each cop, and a note, handwritten on the back. You can actually buy blank ones on eBay but they only really have a chance of working when the cop that awards it signs their name on the back.

Anyway I have all of that, signatures and all - a PBA card from a regular cop and a SBA card from a Sergeant. I haven't pulled the SBA card ,but the PBA card didn't get me out of making an illegal lane change and I had to pay $80

If you want to tie it into LCN - in the Giallanzo Detention Memo it said he got pulled over with a burner in his car, which didn't get searched, but he tried using a SBA card to get out of the moving violation ticket ... and it didn't work.

I'm telling you. It's a total crapshoot and most cops get pissed off at the notion that people are walking around thinking they can get out of everything by showing a piece of plastic saying they know or are related to a cop. It's insulting. Especially if you're one of those "back the blue" hard lined cop supporters who think cops are infallible, but at the same time, will let everything slide because you have a sticker on your car or card in your wallet...

Fat Pete Chiodo is a justifiable one, Casso tried to murder him because he thought he was a snitch. Who wouldn’t snitch after being wrongfully fingered, and almost murdered by your own people?

I was all the way out in Country Club in the Bronx the other day and saw an L&B box discarded. That’s quite some reach.

I don’t care who he did/didn’t rat on tbh — at least he has good taste in pizza.

If I ever run into him there I’ll ask him about when he was locked up with Solly D lol.

gohnjotti wrote: Mon Aug 12, 2019 10:37 am Joseph Campanella was 100% justifiable.
Not really, the guys who tried to kill him had been told by the mob not to but tried anyway. He then turned rat even though the Columbo would have backed him. He was also messing with the wife of made guy, that may have been coming out and led him to rat also. Still not justified at all.
Campanella was the right-hand-man of William Cutolo, and was promised by both Cutolo and John DeRoss that if Cutolo were to be arrested, Campanella would become the acting capo of his crew, just like he was during the 1990s.
Then, Campanella is asked by DeRoss to take part in the murder of Cutolo. He refused. Then, Cutolo is murdered and DeRoss assumes control over the Cutolo crew himself. Then, in tape-recorded discussions with William Cutolo Jr. and others in Cutolo’s immediate family, DeRoss voices his concerns that Campanella may not be loyal, and might turn government witness.
After William Cutolo Jr. is taken off the streets and DeRoss is indicted, his tapes are released, including the tapes of DeRoss badmouthing and sowing dissent about Campanella. DeRoss, figuring Campanella will not be loyal anymore, orders a hit - with Alphonse Persico’s blessing - on Campanella. The hit is carried about by Vincent DeMartino and Giovanni Floridia, but Campanella survives.

That’s when Campanella first started talking to the FBI, although did not make a deal with them until his arrest the following year. Charged with various violent crimes, Campanella finally resumes talking with the FBI and cuts a deal to testify against the men accused of ordering his murder. Campanella refuses to testify against fellow Cutolo crew members, or the Russian members of his Brighton Beach crew.

To me, that sounds like a pretty good reason for flipping. Campanella testified against the men who already suspected him of being an informer, and who tried to murder him.
Someone talking bad about a guy on a tape is no excuse to rat. Campenella wanted into the life he was in, he did not have to rat, period. He choose to, like a punk. Every rat has an excuse.
I agree with Bert. Its like when i was in the military and i took an oath to honor and serve. And i was in the middle of the sh*t and you know you may die, but your there and despite what mental and or physical consquences you may endure afterwards nothing is worse than disgracing yourself and integrity. I look at CN in a similar, BUT NOT exact way
