The only top level type Boss that I can think of from research who never lived in the suburbs was Joey Lombardo. He refused to leave his area in the City. All the other top level Bosses from the 1960's and 70's all lived in the Suburbs well before the 1980's. As far as Mob operations, It does seem like there was more of a shift towards the suburbs during the 1980's. Either that, or the Outfit simply started losing power slowly during the 1980's because the 1990's was a disaster for them.
Yes, I should have mentioned that most of the bosses did move to the suburbs prior to the seventies. It was just bad wording on my part that made it sound otherwise. What I intended was for people to see that most of the top guys (not just the bosses) and the majority of Outfit operations had been relocated to the suburbs by the late eighties.
Just as a random aside, Angelo LaPietra was actually an example of a guy who moved
back into the city, as I believe he lived in Cicero prior to building his fortress in the Bridgeport neighborhood.
I'm sure you found this to be true, but it seemed as though River Forest, Oak Park, Elmwood Park & Melrose Park seemed to be the popular spots in which to reside for many of the Top Outfit Guys in the West during the 1970's.
River Forest: Ricca, Accardo, Blasi, English
Oak Park: Giancana, Battaglia, Spilotro (before he went to Las Vegas)
Elmwood Park: Cerone, Gagliano, Messino
Melrose Park: Auippa, Nicoletti
Guys up North like Dominic DiBella lived in Glenview and Joey DiVarco live in Lincolnwood which I believe are North Suburbs.
Cicero was probably also much nicer during the 1970's so it would make sense that Angelo LaPietra lived there before he went back in the City. Do you know when he moved back into the City?
