Did Cammarano become official underboss after Vitale flipped?
No, he was only id'ed as acting. Later succeeded by Mancuso after his indictment.

Before that. He was shelved and thats when Massino set up the panel with Coppa, Attanasio, and someone else i believe... (Lino??)

At one point Attanasio even took Vitales place i believe.

Guy seems like a stone cold killer and to spite Massinos restrictions put upon him still played a major role in the politics of the mafia for a solid 20 years and communicated with all 5 families. Also it’s pretty impressive how he stayed out of trouble for so long.
I posted a breakdown of his cooperation in the fbi files section ,
It actually i believe was the opposite- he wasnt really respected due to him being a ex CO. Some believed he shouldn't have been made.

As wel as once he was shelved i think he was basically ex communicated from everyone
I get what your saying but Massino sent him to a lot of high level meetings...

Him being an ex CO and still getting made is a "What were they thinking?" type situation. I can't see him being respected or even accepted by most mafia members with that kind of background.

As wel as once he was shelved i think he was basically ex communicated from everyone
