Doesn’t surprise me. Tripodi and Quattrone were inactive by 1981 but they had some of their younger guys who still had gambling going on. I wonder who Sanzo worked with?
Sanzo clamied to have the blessing of the pittsburgh Lcn to operate in stubenville, If that is true , as far as who game him that blessing I have no idea
Sounds about right. Tripodi was semi active in the mid 70’s, basically collecting envelopes from other operators. Rumor has it he left a $60-$70 million fortune to his kids and grandkids. He lived like a peasant. I know a few of the Tegano brothers were still operating in Steubenville (non made guys but close to Tripodi). Jack DeSarro’s brother had some gambling there as well.
Thanks JC for all you stories and info about this area.
$60 to $70 mil back then was a huge fortune. For some of
these 'smaller town' guys, crime really DID pay.

I grew up in the Mckees Rocks/Stowe/Pittock area, and the notion that back then they would drive such a long way is kind of amusing. Of course those things were available closer to home, but a lot of these guys had girlfriends and decent jobs,so discretion was important. Also the variety and quality of these amusements was on a much higher level than at home. Uncle John used to tell me that on Friday nights, the guys and their girls would go to Coraopolis, (maybe have dinner at Segneri's), and dance to big bands. Then on Sat. night they'd load up the Studebaker and it was off to Steubenville.
Love hearing these old stories

This is the last bus for illegal gambling in Steubenville and this guy was not connected to anyone associated with LCN in years prior:

I dunno if he meant it is mobbed up or used to be. I looked it up and it shows principal ownership to belong to a Joe Dialbert. If it is still owned by them I'm guessing they're silent partners. After seeing the arrest pics of Agnello and crew I'm assuming he's on his own with no Gambino umbrella to protect him.
Steubenville was a river town loaded with steel mills. Lots of work and lots of gambling all run by the LaRocca Family. Vincenzo “Jimmy” Tripodi was the man with Cosmo Quattrone as his #2. Both were made guys. They ran the town with an iron fist and nobody fucked with Jimmy because he was as ruthless a gangster as anybody in the country. He was very close to Rocco Pellegrino of the Genovese family in Westchester, New York. He was also close to San Jose and San Francisco. Quattrone and Tripodi were related through marriage. Tripodi was diagnosed with terminal cancer and when he was 87, he went out to his garage just prior to Christmas and blew his brains out with a .38 special revolver. Ironic ending for a guy who was known to pull the trigger on many occasions. He was close to Antonio Ripepi, John Bazzano Jr and Kelly Mannarino of Pittsburgh, all Calabrians. He was also very very close to the Calabrese Organization in Youngstown and drove to Cleveland once a week to meet with Tony Milano, also a Calabrian. He didn’t trust non-Calabrians. He especially hated Sicilians according to wire taps.

Dean Martin (real name Dino Crocetti) was from Steubenville and he was a craps dealer at the Rex cigar store basement casino before getting a break at the Jungle Inn casino in Youngstown. In many books, Dean Martin referred to both Jimmy Tripodi and Cosmo Quattrone. They helped him get his start.

If you read those links that I posted above, they give quite a bit of information on all the businesses and all the relationships that Steubenville had around the country.

I just happened to be talking to people who grew up in Steubenville, Weirton WV, and just outside of downtown Cleveland. Just caught my interest. I have heard there's still some presence of LCN but no formal families anymore. They sent me an article awhile back about Carmine Agnello running a scam out of his junkyard.
The primary LCN bookmaker in Weirton, WV was Silvio “Birdie” Pinciaro. He dominated the gambling rackets in Weirton for JoJo Pecora, Pittsburgh Underboss from 1985-1987 (He died of a massive heart attack down in Boca in 1987). Paul Hankish ran Wheeling, WV for Pittsburgh LCN. He was Lebanese

To my knowledge, Agnello was never associated with any remnants of LCN in Cleveland. He married the daughter of a Syrian terrorist that he spent time with in prison, she comes from a ton of money

I spent quite a bit of time in Detroit I am originally from Youngstown.
