Whitey Bulger wasn’t a rat: U.S.A. vs James Bulger
Nobody posts in Irish mob and enough mafia periphery To post here I figured Never thought I’d say it and it goes against everything, but just watched the documentary United States vs James Bulger...anyone else seen it? It pretty much details how John Connolly, John Morris and others created a fake file on whitey as an informant to go after the Angiulos putting his name on falsified information and illegal wiretaps. Gets into Top echelon program and Greg Scarpa a tiny bit but it actually turned my whole understanding of the history of the winter hill gang and New England mob. Incredibly compelling and basically Boston Feds pulled off a long con for the bribes he was paying them. The whole trial basically ignored the racketeering predicates and devolved into an arguement about if he was an informant or not. Bob fitzpatrick and that woman who got Greg Scarpas FOIA file seem to think it was all bullshit created to protect his source of money. Before you call me an idiot watch it. He was never an informant. He was a straight crash dummy for Boston fbi. Which I knew obviously, but realizing he wasn’t an informant at all and it’s all a fabrication to try cover their asses and the feds have to stick by their story.

He was an informant...there is no debate.

That’s the guy, Adriana. My Uncle Tony. The guy I’m going to hell for.

It convinced me. I always considered it gospel truth he was informant until I saw it. FBI Boston was the premier RICO compared to winter hill or Patriarcas.

Whitey Bulger was straight crash dummy....he was paying not saying

I watched it. I wasn't convinced but I did think it was possible that the agents essentially created Bulger's CI status. However, going over Flemmi and Martorano's accounts you really have to suspend disbelief that Bulger wasn't involved and in the know. I think he figured that him testifying would only hurt Catherine Greig and make the G come after the rest of the money he snatched. Rather go out a legend.

Re: Whitey Bulger wasn’t a rat: U.S.A. vs James Bulger
He knew his rite head partner stevie was drawing layouts of gerry anguilos headquarters and saw him pass the the layout to a corrupt fbi agent and went along with it. He was a snitch he just let stevie do the leg work. He should have killed Steve
Re: Whitey Bulger wasn’t a rat: U.S.A. vs James Bulger
There was tons of tapes of gerry anguilo speaking out loud about how he and whitey and the winter hill gang were partners in gambling and murder. Whitey new the feds were going after them with wiretap bugs and didnt tell them. Cause he was helping the feds.

I mean he "wasn't a rat" because Stevie was the one who had all the info to tell the FBI lol. Whitey obviously knew that Stevie was giving the info, knew that he (Whitey) was getting credit for it as well and reaped the benefits. So of course he is a rat. Martorano obviously knew what the deal was as well.
I did watch this documentary a few years ago and found it interesting. Seemed like Bulger was resigned to his fate of being found guilty and spending what was left of his life in prison, and his only real goal in the trial was to clear his name of being an informant and for murdering those 2 young women.
