From the late 1980s-late 1990s/early 2000s they were probably the family most involved with drugs. During that period they had the most drug cases with several made members busted for dealing everything from heroin, to crack and weed.

I'm sure Leo Giammona was murdered over some drug trafficking he was trying to arrange. I used to think it was for his friendship with Buscetta but I found he went to Brazil in early 1988. Riina send a command to kill him - I guess it was after this time and they killed him in June or July.Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 2:09 pmJeremyTheJew wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 1:34 pm 80s - iv seen pogo say luchesse which Surprised me. I don't think the Genovese were ever #1 in drugs after the 1960s but that was largely by design.

Re: 60-2010 top NY fam running drugs
There were two main factions in the "Pizza Connection" Trial during the mid 1980's. One was headed by Gaetano Badalamenti and the other was headed by Salvatore Catalano who was a Captain in the Bonanno Family. Badalamenti was with the Cinisi Clan in Sicily. Soooo, I would say the Zips in the Bonanno Family were more involved in the "Pizza Connection" than any Zips in any of the other Families in New York but that is merely an opinion.JeremyTheJew wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 5:54 pm So...

A lot of the other guys convicted were relatives of Badalamenti and were Sicilian Zips.

Badalamenti and Bono supplied bonanno w the dope.
I've allways assumed the bonanno and Gambinos we're separated and not part of same pizza connection.
Maybe that after Riina won the war that was when castellan began getting his cut?
So we got:
60- gen
70-??
80- bonanno Zips
90- Luke's

Re: 60-2010 top NY fam running drugs
Yeah, I think the Genovese were involved in the drug trade as much or more than anyone back then. In fact they were one of the families with the biggest percentage of members arrested for narcotics at the time.JeremyTheJew wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 5:50 pmDo u think they were top guys in or before? Post-1960s it would usually be a toss up between the Gambinos and Bonannos, though Pogo may be right about the Luccheses in the 1990s.
From 2000 forward it wouldn't surprise me if continued to be the Gambinos and Bonannos but if have to go through the cases to be sure.

Re: 60-2010 top NY fam running drugs
Regarding the Bonannos 2000-Today:
1. The Bronx Crew has long been involved in selling weed. Vinny Basciano Sr. was involved I think, and everybody knows his sons were. Ernie Aiello, possibly the Bronx's head honcho, was involved in the weed industry and taught Anthony Zoccolillo how to sell. As well as this, Ernie was involved with a Williamsburg pill-peddling operation.
2. The Zips, led by Vito Grimaldi, are involved in drugs. There is nothing indicating that Vito, his son Joe, or the Ridgewood guys are involved in any drugs, but other Zips in the family like Damiano Zummo are. Zummo lives in Queens around the Ridgewood area so he's probably not the Canada acting capo like people were speculating, but he might be an acting capo in the Zip/Ridgewood crew. Zummo and his cousin(?) Sal Russo sold $38,000 worth of coke in a Manhattan gelato store in September last year. Zummo works with the Gambino family's Sicilian faction which, as we all know, are historically involved in drugs.
3. Over in Howard Beach, Ronnie G and his guys - led by Mike Palmaccio - had a lucrative business selling coke, hydrocodone, and oxycodone. Palmaccio and Pudgie Festa were the two chief soldiers behind this.
4. I don't know anything about Banner Social Club crew being involved in drugs. Loansharking and gambling from what I can recall.
5. The Williamsburg crew led by Nicky Mouth oversaw a prescription drug ring that sold pills like Viagra, Cialis, and Oxycodone on the black market. They sold up to 300,000 pills for somewhere between $5-to-$20 a pill. So even conservatively, the pill peddling operation is worth millions upon millions of dollars. Skinny Santoro, a bone-headed friend of acting capo Vito Badamo, also sold weed and xanax on the side. Longtime crew member and former consigliere Fat Tony Rabito of Williamsburg was always a pill-peddler in the past as well but he is most likely inactive now.
6. I don't know anything about Joe Desi's crew. What members I do know of - Desi, Adamo, Steve Desi, and Simone Esposito - are not involved in drugs to the best of my knowledge.
7. The Knickerbocker Avenue crew led by Little Anthony Pipitone was involved in selling weed.
8. On Long Island, capo Johnny Sciremammano and soldier Frank Salerno have been involved in selling coke. Salerno more recently, being arrested for working with the Gambinos to sell five kilos of the stuff.
9. When TG Graziano was in charge of Staten Island he ran an enormous coke operation spanning Brooklyn, Florida, and Staten Island. The crew was later run by Lovaglio, and more recently Grumpy Tropiano.

That's why you don't assume anything. Especially when George Sciascia/Bonanno(Montreal faction) was supplying Angelo Ruggiero/Sal with Heroin.JeremyTheJew wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 7:38 pm Badalamenti and Bono supplied bonanno w the dope.
