Frank Iannarella Sr. (Philadelphia Soldier)

Post by LcnBios »

1960 photo of Frank 'Snuffy' Iannarella (father of 'Faffy' Iannarella):

Born 1925 to James Iannarella and Elizabeth Turco Iannarella, father from town of Colliano in Salerno, Campania.

Long-time associate by the 1960s, he was a close friend of Angelo Bruno and proposed for membership as of 1969. There was some conflict about this particular induction between the Sicilian/Calabrian faction so not sure when the ceremony actually took place, but Iannarella is believed to have been made around this time, along with with John Grande and others. He was inactive by the time Scarfo took over and died last year.

Son 'Faffy' Iannarella was part of the large group inducted by Scarfo in January 1982. Faffy was involved in multiple hits under Scarfo and last I checked is still incarcerated. He got close to former Genovese captain Angelo Prisco while both were at the same facility around the late 1990s.

Thanks JD. Any more information on the Sicilian-Calabrian dispute?

Good find. He looks just like his son. I wonder if his mother was related to any of the three Turco's who were made members?

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

In 1930, James Iannarella (born 1/12/1894) lived at 812 S 7th St, with his wife Elizabeth (25) (Turco); sons: Alfred & Frank (ages 7 and 5); daughter Filomena.

Right around the corner lived a Frank Iannarella (61) at 703 Christian St along his daughter Marie (age 18). He arrived in 1896 and boarded with Luigi Pinto in 1900. This might be Jame's father.

Not sure if this helps. But Christian & S 7th were hotbeds of OC activity in the '10's and 20's.

Riccobene thought Iannarella had a past as a drug user which prevented him from being made (though he was made later) but wasn't sure. I think he is mistaken, personally, but who knows... look at Asaro.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. Snuffy Iannarella attended the re-trial for the D'Alfonso murder (Faffy was one of the defendants obviously), but that's the closest thing I've found to him interacting with the family after Bruno's death.

Seems strange that he'd be inactive in his mid 50's.
