William Hanhardt Jewelry Ring Question
Is there a comprehensive list of the places robbed that were attributed to the Chicago Hanhardt jewelry ring? Reason I ask is I suspect the Belvidere, Illinois robbery was one of them. Additionally, later in the attached article they mention the Busch jewelry robbery around 1989 where two Chicago men were arrested. I can't find any info on who these Chicago men may have been. Any help?

Re: William Hanhardt Jewelry Ring Question
I just went through my old Outfit burglary business article and it seems i didnt list much of the jobs that Hanhardt and his associates were involved in, except for these few...
The October 8, 1984 theft of one hundred eighty Baume & Mercer watches valued at approximately $310,000 from Paul Lachterman in Glendale, Wisconsin
Also $500,000 worth of Rolex watches in Monterrey, California in 1986.
Or the theft of jewellery worth approximately $125,000 from a Gordon Brothers Corporation salesperson in Englewood, Ohio, which occurred in August 1989.
Theft from a Gem Platinum salesperson of jewellery worth approximately $1,300,000, in Dallas, Texas, in June 1992.
A theft from another Gen Platinum salesperson of jewellery worth approximately $1,000,000 in Flat Rock, Michigan, in June 1993
Theft from a H.K. Mallak, Inc. salesperson of jewellery worth approximately $240,000 in Mankato, Minnesota, on August 3, 1993
Theft from jewellery company representatives of jewels worth approximately $170,000 in Phoenix, Arizona, on May 7, 1994
Theft from safety deposit boxes at a Columbus, Ohio hotel of jewellery and United States currency worth approximately $1,500,000, on August 27, 1994.
Hanhardt was also responsible for the August 23, 1995, Esagh Kashimallak robbery, which occurred in a hotel room in Brookfield, Wisconsin, where two individuals struck the salesperson in the head, displayed a gun, tied his ankles and wrists with tape, and took his jewellery case, which contained over $500,000 gems.
There was also this “trick” which the thieves often used and that was the swapping of the salesman’s bag with another identical bag. With the help of this kind of trick, the gang once netted over $1,000,000 worth of diamonds in Dallas from a representative of the J. Schliff and Son Company.

What year and month was the Belvidere robbery? I couldn’t find it in the newspaper. Definitely the same MO but I don’t think they were charged with it which is not surprising if it was their robbery. I’m sure there was a lot of heists that police figured was them but was not able to prove it. That being said, I saw a reference to a car that was made in 1999. His charges only included robberies that occurred from the 1980s to 1998. Also, the states where he committed robberies were Arizona, California, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin. Illinois was not listed.
I’ll look into the other robbery you asked about.
Re: William Hanhardt Jewelry Ring Question
I have a few that were suspected to be Hanhardt jobs, but a lot of the info was redacted. I don't have the indictment so some of these may be rolled into that:
9/2/82: Theft of suitcase containing 3 million dollars in assorted jewelry from Westin Hotel, Chicago, IL
3/22/86: Theft of 525 thousand dollars in gold jewelry; Indianapolis, IN
7/27/89: Theft of 500 thousand dollars in diamond jewelry; Indianapolis, IN
11/15/90: Theft of approximately 1 million dollars in diamond rings and cash from Gonshor Fine Jewelry, Inc., Skokie, IL
6/23/93: Theft of 1 million dollars of jewelry
9/2/93: Theft of 350 thousand dollars worth of jewelry from Suwa and Son, Inc., Omaha(?)
Two additional unnamed victims, one a Rolex salesman in St. Louis

July 27, 1999 was when the Belvidere robbery occurred. I remember when Hanhardt went down, the first thing I thought of was that Belvidere jewelry robbery.Patrickgold wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 10:14 amCavita, cavita wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 6:25 pm Is there a comprehensive list of the places robbed that were attributed to the Chicago Hanhardt jewelry ring? Re: William Hanhardt Jewelry Ring Question
Yes it’s very possible considering he was indicted in October of 2000. The only thing is that I think which would point that he did not do it was that he was probably under heavy surveillance at the time of the robbery in Belvedere but does not mean his crew didn’t do.cavita wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 8:30 pmJuly 27, 1999 was when the Belvidere robbery occurred.
