I don't know much about the Corozzos but my understanding is JoJo Corozzo was deeper in the Gotti faction, while Corozzo and DiMaria were more of an independent faction. I have no clue what the relationship is between the Corozzo brothers beyond that, but could be a factor. The recording DiLeonardo made suggests JoJo Corozzo was the power behind Pete Gotti when he took over.

My main point of confusion is as to why tanso follows luisi around, when luisi is a cooperator and tanso (so far as I know) is not.

I agree. So many emotional talks! So many heated glances! The more I thought about it, the more I started to imagine this movie about a relationship between two very traditionally masculine older ex LCN guys and their struggle to come to terms with their homosexuality. It would've made for a great movie.
