There was one guy who was a potential fit but died in 2001 so it can't be him. The only NY guy I'm getting that died between 1975 and 1985 with this name is:
NAME: Salvatore Trapani
SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER: 127-30-8807
BIRTH DATE: 7 Apr 1908
ISSUE YEAR: 1955-1957
ISSUE STATE: New York
LAST RESIDENCE: 11219 (Borough Park), Brooklyn, Kings, New York, USA (349 Court Street was 11231 (Carrol Gardens) which is 4 miles away.
DEATH DATE: May 1985

Turone is an accurate name, you'll find it in Calabria. But I'm not seeing anyone with that fits with that surname who died in 1985 in NY, NJ or CT. There is a Tirrone who died in 1986 though.

Is he related to Joseph Zingaro/Zangara who was listed as a captain in 1963? I'm having difficulty confirming Joseph's identity and one wrong thing can lead from Sicily to Salerno or Cosenza in between.

1 Anthony Vanella was born 1894/9/16 to Francesco and Paolina Francesca Focarino, all of Godrano. He married a Gloria Migliore. I don't know who Rocco Vanella is so I did a quick google search and a Robert Vanella came up who was born 1879 and died in 1928, if this the guy, his father Giuseppe and mother Gerarda Tramutola were from Potenza.

2 Son.

3 I think so too. The Gambino Benny was, according to HK, born in 1912 and died in 1977. CIro's son, according to an ancestry chart-
Spouse Theresa "Chickie" Donofrio
Father Ciro Terranova
Mother Maria Taormina
Children Marilyn
Birth 11 Nov 1912 New York City, New York, USA
Death 1975 New York City, New York, USA
Residence 1940 Kings, New York, USA

There's another one who died 1977/09/06 who I can't find info on yet.

Yeah, that's the same Robert Vanella. During his time in Chicago in the 1910s the authorities referred to him as "Rocco" Vanella when he was the person of interest in the murder of a cop along with Torrio and Colosimo (IIRC). He was born Robert Vanella in NYC to parents from Potenza, as you noted. Looks like no relation to Anthony Vanella.

Amazing work on all of this HK and CC! When did Mario Traina’s father (Giuseppe?) pass away? And was Anthony Zappi the son of Ettore Zappi? Wasn’t he also made by this time? My apologies if I’m confused and the captains are listed already listed separately from the list of soldiers.

Benny´s father Ciro was born in or around 1882. The father´s wife´s name was Maria (or Mary) and his mother´s name was Rose. They lived in Brooklyn. So not the same guy as the early Genovese/Morello member.

Trapani was an ILA official and according to the article below, was 40 years old in 1954. So if the age mentioned in the article is correct, he was born in or around 1913.

I highly doubt there is a relation. Zingaro was born and raised in the Bronx/Westchester.

Chris, I looked at the source again and realized that Turone, Romano, Pietro Angelo not necessarily died in 1985 (although D´Acquista did). Locascio and Gotti talks about John Riccobono also and he died in 1984. So Turone, Romano and Angelo may have died prior to 1985. Please take a look and see what you get out of this conversation:

The above info I posted was the right guy then. For some reason I was thinking the Corleonese Ciro was born in 82...-
Benedetto Terranova born to Ciro (Termini Imerese) and Maria Taormina (Marineo) and lived in Brooklyn:

This is the closest match but he died in Jun of 1975:
NAME: Salvatore Trapani
GENDER: Male
BIRTH DATE: 19 Oct 1913
DEATH DATE: Jun 1975
CLAIM DATE: 30 Jul 1975
SSN: 054034012

His WW2 draft reg lists him as a Stevedore:
44027_14_00147-01387.jpg
In 1920 he and his family were listed as living on President St in Brooklyn with parents Cosmo and Angelina of Gaeta, Latina, Lazio. His naturalization petition listed a Carmona as his wife living in Gaeta with their child Carolina. But by 1918 it appears his wife is now Angelina. Same guy unless there were two Cosmo Trapanis born on May 10, 1879 which isn't completely impossible

Has to be him because I'm not seeing any recorded deaths with that name on the East Coast from 1976 to 1985.

The 19 Oct 1913 DOB and the 1975 death is what I have for Trapani. That should also be his draft card as he did work on Pier 34 in Brooklyn at one time.

Closest match:
Name
Salvatore Tirone
Birth
19 Feb 1918
Death
19 Dec 1983

There was also a Salvatore Traina who died in the 1980s and depending on how each surname is pronounced, could sound similar. For NY, I'd assume the phonetics would be Tray-nuh and then Tur-rone or possibly Tur-rone-uh. I wish I could hear Gotti say the name.

Was Frank Ruggiero a Stevedore in Brooklyn? There are several possibilities with that name, a few born in Apil of 1913 with different death dates. This one is the closest possibility (imo) who also worked at Pier 34 and lived on the same street- First Place- with Salvatore Trapani.
