Just in the vague terms that Chris Christie mentioned. The "other" Tommy Gambino tried to operate in Bruno/Scarfo crime family area, was told to cut it out by Merlino, and relocated to California.

Everyhing I've read and seen about him suggest that he's very clever.

Read The Last Gangster.

He hasn't earned anything legitimate or illegitimate.

He has stolen everything he got from somebody else.

He bets into his own friends books without the slightest intention of paying when he loses, which is often.

Right now he has some eccentric rich old fart bankrolling his nightclub and casino trips.

Careful taking TLM for more than what it's worth.

It's a great book but it doesn't tell the entire story. Most of it consists of Previte's experiences combined with Anastasia's "Last Days Of The Mob" narrative. Evidently Borgesi ceased all contact with Anastasia after reading the book and feeling that Previte "misrepresented" things. Of course what can he expected to say?

Say what you want about merlino but he's been boss of a family for close to 20 years and he's never been caught on a wire saying anything very incriminating, never been convicted of the numerous hits he's been involved in, and he's not doing life. His guys are loyal to him which is the main reason he's not doing life. Must be doing something right most guys don't make it 5 years. Of course luck plays a role though

Roger vella flipped , he was merlinos driver , it's true though that has defo helped merlino. His core group are very loyal and never flip on each other
