Probably 18-19 month before moving to a halfway house.
The way you talk, you just confuse him.

You know, even though they did fuck him over. If he really gave a shit about his family and freedom, he wouldn’t have put himself in the situations that he was in. Kind of hard to feel bad for the dude. If he gave a shit, he wouldn’t even catch a traffic ticket. He got what was coming to him. Don’t understand what all the pity is about

Nobody get away clean with anything, especially these high-profile guys. He got away relatively lightly in 2001 in terms of getting out of those murder charges. He beat it then but the government's never going to stop going after him, and this is their way of making it clear that he didn't really get away with anything. Locked up from 1999 to 2011. Back behind bars for parole violation after getting released. Now getting hit with the maximum sentence in this case. And there's always the rumours that they've been looking to get him again as part of a bigger RICO case to put him away permanently. There's nothing Merlino can do to stop being a target short of dropping dead.

Maybe he could stop taking envelopes every night while simultaneously saying "I'm not willing to do anything illegal"....but lets get serious that's never going to happen. Harassment from the feds comes with the territory, its part of the game but the Judge shouldn't hammer Joey just because the Feds couldn't prove their case.

It's a little surprising that the judge gave him the maximum of 2 years. Judge seemed annoyed with the prosecutors. But Merlino plead guilty and has been a life long criminal with prior convictions. Judges always take that into account when sentencing and gave him the maximum of 2 years. That's about a year in a half in jail or prison. Merlino and his lawyer knew there was a strong possibility that he would get the max when they accepted the deal.

this and your last sentence are very true and important. he's been playing with house money since he beat those bodies.

Will he get time served for the time he is locked up already before sentencing?

Going by the fact that they gave him time to hand himself in I don't think he has been locked up. I think he's been out on bail since his arrest in 2016, so he hasn't 'served' any time at all on this

He is not locked up now. Has a month and a half to turn himself in to begin serving his sentence.

Kind of unreal they don 't consider Merlino a flight risk.

Going on the lam to avoid a two-year sentence would be the dumbest thing he could possibly do.
