Minor misspellings are pretty common in Florida. For a long time the Colombo's (and Tampa) had people inside the driver's license issuing office, and for a long time minor spelling corrections were easy to get done on driver's licenses. It goes back to when the Turnpike was controlled by a joint Colombo / Tampa operation. What is shocking to me is how wildly inaccurate the Fed's are even with basic things like names.
Interesting. i wish I still had some connections in law enforcement regarding the potential Tampa angle. Veeery curious about the Turnpike, es since I work in the engineering/environmental consulting field. Aand while I currently work in water, not transportation, my previous firm was very transpo-heavy and I have a good handle on the ins and outs of FDOT
They controlled the concessions/vendors. I'm not sure about construction, and have no first hand knowledge, but that wouldn't surprise me. That goes back a ways, and I suspect you knew, met or wrote about some of those guys. A lot of that is before my time. I was coming down at the end of that, but my purpose and need to know was pretty narrow back then. Over the years the trust grew, and now we tend to be more open about stuff and especially stuff past the SOL.
The fake DL's scam hit the newspaper, but I've never been able to find anything on that. I know people got pinched. That's more recent. They had people inside. I was going to get a FL DL, and was told that was over, and probably best if I didn't ask about it.
They got better at things in recent years. They have people inside FL, and it is similar to sanitation in NYC in that regard. The example is they were in rehab houses all over Fla, and they were tipped off that was getting looked at. They all got out. It got looked at, and a bunch went down. None of the boys went down though. Same thing with mortgage fraud. We all knew that was coming. The gambling is still large, it's paid for, and protected. Multiple poeple in the know are talking on the state level, and maybe even the federal level.
Remember when the Sheriff went down? He was acquitted and Santo paid the defense costs. I thought I mentioned that to you. That was all over the newspapers also. Except the part about Santo paying the attorneys obviously. I'm pretty sure if I asked some of the older guys they probably knew who your paternal grandfather was. I've not asked, and I'm not going to ask.
