The mob no longer has national control of unions, which was one of the primary ways that guys from different Families interacted and coordinated activities together. What some of them do have today is food. You have guys who are restaurant owners, others are involved in food distribution, importing etc. Guys like Gigi and Todaro can pal around at conventions and post about it on social media, as they’re just big-upping each others’ brands as fellow Italian food guys. We’ve seen previously before how some Chicago guys like the LoBues are major players in Italian food importing and distribution, which gives them reason to travel all over the US and Italy, and clearly have connections to some Detroit guys also involved in the food business. Given the national and international scope of companies like Greco, they presumably have connections to a lot of other people that we don’t know about. The mafia has always had a major presence in food production and distribution, since it’s earliest days, and of course in Chicago and other cities early mafiosi were involved heavily in produce wholesaling. What’s old is new again.

This Gigi seems like a real class act. What type of moron invites OJ Simpson into your restaurant as a PR stunt in 2023?

We’ve discussed Gigi and his brother and their various escapades over the years here. Just search “Rovito”.

Interesting, maybe he's mentioned it before but watching Frank Jrs interview with Scott he says he has a lot of Nick's unreleased 302s that he plans to put out to the mob museum in Vegas soon. Would be curious to see whats in them.

Great point and post Tony. This deserves a thread dedicated to itself.

To expand on your point with a strong example:

The Olive Oil King Profaci’s family brand, Colavita, is a national best seller, and ran today by the intertwined Profaci-Tocco family. In MI and N. Ohio, Tocco’s handle distribution and end-use through their wholesale and restaurant brands, and also to the areas multi-generational family ran Italian markets.

This generation is indeed showing what is old, is new again. I’m sure we could connect the dots to Chicago via some of these brands. Yet another network.

Not Outfit related per se, but stopped into the new bar/cafe that replaced the Mallard Tavern at Grand/Milwaukee/Halsted called Dolce Amori. It is full on staffed by off the boat, for lack of a better word, Italians. Was surprised as it not super common any more. Believe the owner was there too and he is also clearly an Italian immigrant. Cool little spot that reminds me of a European street bar.

Edit: Appears its the owner of Piccolo Sogno, which makes sense.

Yep is the same owner. It’s a nice addition to the neighborhood. Good place to get a cappuccino.

I was made aware of this article by someone on the forum. Kind of a bizarre story. Bocce court and crack don’t really mix but who knows. I drive by this club all the time and have heard that the remnants of the grand and May club opened this club when that club closed down. I’m wondering if they rented out the room to Puerto Ricans or some other ethnic group

Gun, drugs — and bocce ball court — reportedly found at NW Side social club on Addison Street near Shabbona Park
BY NADIGNEWSPAPERS@AOL.COM · MARCH 28, 2023

by BRIAN NADIG

A gun and drugs allegedly were found at about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, inside a building at 6841 W. Addison St. that reputedly houses social clubs, including one with a bocce ball court, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

Officers reported that while on patrol they noticed multiple people inside a suspected unlicensed social club, with the name Cafe Molisano on the storefront, and conducted a premise check, according to police.

The officers knocked an the door and were let inside and asked one of the occupants for a city business license, which was not produced, and a license citation was issued, police said.

The officers asked the occupants if they knew anything about a recent report of gunshots in the area, police said.

The club members reportedly told the officers they had no knowledge of the gunshots but that they share the building with a second group that has a bar and a bocce ball court in another room, which was the officers were let into, police said.

The officers reported that they saw a woman sleeping on a mattress in the room and observed in plain view drugs, drug equipment and a semi-automatic pistol, which had no visible serial number, police said.

Officers confiscated the gun, about 30 grams of suspected marijuana and the following which police described as “drug/narcotic equipment:” two plastic trays, two scales, rolling paper, a white metal mirror and straws, police said.

The woman reportedly told officers that the room is used as an after-hours club and that entrants usually pay a $10 cover charge, police said.

On March 24 the city Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection issued cease and desist orders for operating without a public place of amusement license, retail food establishment license and consumption-on-premises license to the establishment doing business as “Café Molisano” at 6841 W. Addison, the department said.

In addition, since 2021 about 20 building code citations have been issued in connection with the two-story building, according to the city Department of Buildings. The citations included a failure to maintain the parapet wall in good repair, a failure to maintain the chimney in a safe and sound working condition and construction work in the basement with a permit permit, according to the department’s Web site.

Also in the district, police reportedly have looked into an allegedly unlicensed massage parlor at 5255 N. Central Ave. that in a recent online advertisement listed abbreviations for several sex-related services offered at the establishment.

I was sent the same. This is the same club that was held up Sopranos style during a card game in 2012. My assumption is they were doing blow in there, not crack. Says they found straws so they were probably doing lines.

Do you happen to have that article of the robbery from 2012? I was thinking that club was more by the O streets. I drove by Cafe Molisano social club today and it looks closed down now. Sign is not there anymore.
