For any of you fellow ANP readers, sounds like Frank Coconate died. He was a bit nutty.

A real Chicago character and a real "Telly Savalas", as some might say.NickyEyes1 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 7:26 pmDefinitely wacky but seemed like a great guy. Big loss for the chicago italian community
As a reminder, here's the 2008 letter that Frank Calabrese wrote to Coconate from prison;

Yep. That’s what he told me once. I thought it was bullshit. The current Outfit guys like Chris Spina and Tony Dote hated his guts.NorthBuffalo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 7:59 amHis father was an Elmwood Park associate - supposedly the one that hid Joe DiFronzo when he was on the lamb.

That’s who Frank Calabrese Sr was referring to in that letter.NorthBuffalo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 7:59 amHis father was an Elmwood Park associate - supposedly the one that hid Joe DiFronzo when he was on the lamb.

I believe that this started after his dad died, IIRC. His dad was Gabriel Coconate, who if I have the right guy, died in 2000. Frank’s mother was Roslyn Chiappetta. Both parents were Calabrese and grew up by Chicago and California in the Smith Park/Humboldt Park area.funkster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 7:21 pmAs I recall he was on a big crusade against those guys and outfit linked pols in the burbs.Patrickgold wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 11:42 amYep. I liked Frank. He was emotional and a character, but he did care about Chicago and its people.

Not for nothing, but he worked for the city of Chicago. You wonder how he got that job given all the various connections - he told me he was a bookmaker for a significant portion of that time - I think a lot of people affiliated with the mafia like to tout a crusade against government corruption - but at the same time, he's affiliating with mobsters and kind of representative of that corruption. To each his own.Antiliar wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 9:39 pm I liked Frank. He was emotional and a character, but he did care about Chicago and its people.

I was re-reading an old article talking about how Donald Stephens, the mayor of Rosemont, met with five high-ranking Outfit members among others on May 29, 1999 to discuss the potential for a new casino there. The article said the FBI learned about the meeting days later from a longtime informant who was also present at the meeting. Did it ever come out who the longtime informant was? Magnifichi possibly?

Lombardo
John and Peter DiFronzo
Andriacchi
Rudy Fratto
But there has also been some debate about the reliability of the information and whether or not the meeting ever took place.

Yes that's exactly who was there per the article and they also said "among others" which is vague.Snakes wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 7:40 amI think the names of those who attended were:cavita wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 7:11 am I was re-reading an old article talking about how Donald Stephens, the mayor of Rosemont, met with five high-ranking Outfit members among others on May 29, 1999 to discuss the potential for a new casino there. Re: General Chicago Outfit Info Dumping Ground
According to FBI Special Agent John Mallul the “confidential source” was present at the meeting, and was also a person whom the FBI had used for 30 years and helped with arrests and indictments. Also, I believe Willie Messino was allegedly there at the meeting.cavita wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 7:58 amYes that's exactly who was there per the article and they also said "among others" which is vague.Snakes wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 7:40 amI think the names of those who attended were:cavita wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 7:11 am I was re-reading an old article talking about how Donald Stephens, the mayor of Rosemont, met with five high-ranking Outfit members among others on May 29, 1999 to discuss the potential for a new casino there.
