All that Reggie Van Gleason, "M'boy are you fat." Things have changed around here. I'm the boss of this fucking family. You don't make fun of me.

Great stuff, Pogo. But if we're talking media references, which I usually try to avoid when discussing the street, think more along the lines of "Funny like a clown" in "Goodfellas."

A lot of those guys have no sense of humor, and my point was that Joe was a skipper and you could play with him like that. Yet there were mere associates who took every wisecrack as if you just fucked their Mother in the window at Gino's Pastry.

There was one time a rather rotund kid who was with Vinny and his son had fucked up with Joe when he had the place across from Artuso's on Crescent Avenue and Joe went after him in the street with a bat...he was deadly serious, but it was fucking HYSTERICAL...the kid was probably 270 and he's running down Crescent Avenue with Joe Dente chasing him with a Louisville Slugger. It's a good thing the kid was only in his late 20's but you could've timed the both of them with a calender. Johnny just stood there cause he knew nobody could, should, or would touch him, regardless of who was right or wrong.

Cheech, I'm 50, so "leisure suit" has a completely different meaning to me than track suit, warm up, etc.

"Leisure Suits" where what we dressed in on school picture day with big collared silk shirt.

The suits were usually a bad color/pattern made of polyester and always hot & miserable!

I was just talking about these Leisure suits to a buddy of mine. Going back to my grade school days I use to beg, I MEAN BEG, my parents and grandparents to wear jeans and t-shirts like all my friends. I was the only freakin' kid going to class in a freakin' Leisure suit! These gawd awful colors, light blues, light reds, greens, browns whatever with wide lapels and the pants legs flared out like bell bottoms. The jackets had all these pockets with flaps and buttons, the pants a lot of times had no pockets! I'd be like mom? I want pockets in my pants--What happened? My grandmother made me pants that had pockets. Yea, that's right, my grandmother was a seamstress so she made me all these clothes, Leisure suits, by hand. The material was usually a lot heavier then normal too. Every day was like fucking picture day growing up.

You have to realize something, Sonny. It's that Bruno187, Charlie (who rarely posts, but is an incredible asset to any board), and myself, all grew up in the same neighborhood, literally within a couple hundred yards of each other.

Now, if I remember correctly, I have about ten years on Bruno, and Bruno has about ten years on Charlie, so we didn't "grow up together." But we have a lot of "people in common," and share the same sense of humor about these guys. Especially the "good ones," like Joe D, Joe Sass, Patsy (if he likes you lol), and a few other guys.

I still have my feet in the neighborhood a few days a week because of one of the buildings. But things have changed so much that bullshitting with these two guys always makes me smile. I just wish they'd BOTH post more often! :D

He's out in a couple of weeks. They already moved him to the short time spot in Miami. But they recently bounced Vinny up to fucking Louisiana. Year to go and they move him out of Florida. Now tell me that's not because Johnny's coming out. Spiteful cocksuckers.

I ran into Vinny Anne four or five years ago up in Connecticut, in a mall of all places. Now she's a lot younger than I am. She's probably a little younger than you, a little older than Charlie. But she was always a sweet kid. I hadn't seen her in years, but she came running right over to me. I was embarrassed because I didn't recognize her at first, but my wife elbowed me and mouthed the words just in time .

For those who didn't get it this was Tony Sopranos response to Tony B after he kept making wisecracks about him.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Gotcha, buddy. That honestly flew right over my head. But now that I think about it, I remember it well. I liked Tony B because if his loyalty to the old guard. And although Phil would have everyone believe that his brother was some kind of Saint, he was just as murderous a scumbag as Phil was.

I see Anthony quite often. His son in law used to work for me...what a nice kid. I'm 48 so from what I gather from the boards, I'm not that much younger than you, unless I'm totally off-base. Wouldn't be the first time though. I didn't know about Vinny...tough break. They're totally fucking with him. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they try to hit him with something between now and next summer.

I'll be 56 in a few months, so I guess I was a little off.

Western Louisiana. A fifteen-hour drive from Palm Beach County, through Deliverance Land. And I'm not even talking about Louisiana. I'm talking about cutting through Central Florida .

I hope not, but you're probably right. But if he catches a break and comes home as scheduled, I really hope he packs it in. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Now getting back to the original topic, I noticed that B&G on 187th street off of Arthur Avenue closed down about a year or two ago. I'm pretty sure that they had a sign up saying something to the effect that they've been open since the late 20's. Sad to see. In the late 70's the half ass fighter Bobby Halpern got shot in here by 2 guys but they couldn't kill him. This place catered to the classic wiseguy look as it morphed through the ages. Pretty much every neighborhood throughout the city had a place like this, but they're definitely a dying breed. I'm wondering if there are any that are still open. If anybody knows of any post them.
