Was Carmine Franzese, father and grandfather of Sonny and Michael respectively, a Colombo member?

Michael said he wasn't a member on his show. Said he was close to many important members of different Families, though. He was most likely a Camorrista who never made the formal jump into Cosa Nostra.

Thank you, Joel. Tremendously.

So this Gibellinese contingent, are they suspected of having been affiliated with the defunct-Newark Family?

I'm seeing different parents for Alphonse and Salvatore D'Ambrosio. Alphonse's parents were Giuseppe D'Ambrosio - Forchia, Benevento, Campania and Genevieve Caputo of San Potito Sannitico, Caserta, Campania.

Salvatore's parents appear to be Angelo and Theresa Panaro also of Forchia, Benevento.

I seen them listed as brothers so I'm just checking that this is correct.

Yup, Salvatore - Paul - Andrew were almost certainly ex-Newark family guys.

Pretty much everyone in the NJ crew who would have been old enough was probably in the old Newark family.

His daughter Dolores married a Roger Vassallo, son of Henry Vassallo. That surname has come up in other threads like Sam Jose. I don’t know if there’s a connection.

I can't find any Chicago information for him. He got married on April 24 1928 in Newark; however he's listed as a Chicago resident in reports about the December 1928 Cleveland mafia meeting.

The Colombo family had ~114 members. As of now, the confirmed guys in their NJ crew (except for Ettore Misuraca whom I can't find) have been mapped out with a total of 12 members.

What does everyone think about these suspected members:

- Albert Barrasso
- Michael Marino
- Joseph Leone
- Nicholas J. Marino
- Joseph Licari

I'm most confident about Barrasso.

Great work, Joel.

What do you need for Ettore Misuraca? He was John's brother and went by the name "Art Price", probably went by Arthur as well. Later lived in Florida where John would also move.

Nello Cammarata was arrested in Chicago in 1940 outside of Patsy LoLordo’s old social club with Nicola Diana, a paesan’ of LoLordo from Ribera and a likely Chicago member. At that time, Cammarata stated that he lived at 640 N Wabash in Chicago and was working as an olive oil salesman. That address was in a high rise in the wealthy Streeterville neighborhood near the Loop, so I suspect that Cammarata may have used it as a business address when visiting Chicago. Given that he had previously stated that he lived in Chicago at the Statler bust, I’ve wondered if Cammarata maintained a second address in Chicago for years.

Profaci himself lived in and ran a business in Chicago’s Little Sicily in the 20s before relocating to Brooklyn, so it’s unsurprising that his cousin Cammarata had ties there; there were a number of people from Villabate, and many many more from neighboring towns, who settled in Chicago.

What's interesting is after the break-up of Newark the Lombardinos from Gibellina went with the Colombos while the guys from Vita and Marsala went with the Luccheses.

Gibellina and Vita neighbor one another and not only that, that part of Trapani tended to go with the Bonannos yet as far as we know they only took in Tony Riela. Some of the Vita guys were related to Bonanno members, too.

The Colombos did have a few NYC people from Partanna, though I don't know of any connections between those guys and the Newark faction despite sharing Sicilian region + Colombo affiliation.

Wish we knew more about the politics immediately following the Newark break-up.
