Re: joe massino
There's other threads from a few months ago about Galante. In one it is mentioned that Sonny Red loved Galante.

I wonder what made Bruno go shoot him then? Following orders I guess. But you’d think they’ll warm Lilo if they lived him that much. Crazy stuff
Re: joe massino
Yes I'm sure when it comes to Bruno, he is just following orders.maxiestern11 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 10:59 pmI wonder what made Bruno go shoot him then? Following orders I guess. But you’d think they’ll warm Lilo if they lived him that much. Crazy stuff

Re: joe massino
He was put with James Galante and possibly with Mike Sabella after that, He was made skipper when Sabella was demoted.johnny_scootch wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 11:14 am Massino gets straightened out and put with Nicky Glasses (Underboss) for 6 months then switched to Carmine Galante ("Boss") for 6 months. Then they switch him to Philly Lucky for 6 months. Does anyone know who he went with after that??
There you have it, never printed before.

Kid, I’m sorry. I really don’t know where their loyalties were. If I had to toss the dice I’d say Sonny Red Indelicato being a Mulberry st guy would be near Lilo. But his son Bruno was one of the shooters of Lilo you know? .... so who knows! These alignments and loyalties shift like the sand often times with these guys!maxiestern11 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 10:00 pmDo you know if Phil Lucky and the other 2 capos were Galante loyalists Maxi? I know they were killed a few years later, but I wonder if they tried to take over from Rastelli in response to the Galante hit, or if they just saw an opportunity?thekiduknow wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 9:21 pmThe Sicilians obviously went along with it, and probably benefitted from his death. I imagine he was draining them financially pretty good from junk sales, etc.

But it would always be the NYC commission that voted his death; Gambino, Genovese, Colombo, etc.... even his Bonanno hierarchy would have to approve or there’d be a war afterwards..... but there was NO war! Which only confirms that it was a sanctioned hit!
The Bonannos and their power struggles! I find it all so interesting

You wanna know the truth kid, before their killings I had never heard of wither Giaccone or Trinchera. Only one I was very familiar with was Sonny Red.

According to Vitale, Big Trin was one of the shooters at Joe & Mary's. You have to understand that they may have been Lilo loyalists but, in the end, there's no honor among thieves.

Re: joe massino
Thanks for the replies, I hadn’t heard that Trinchera was one of the shooters, so they definitely weren’t upset about Galante being hit.
Going back to Massino, when did he become acting boss for Rastelli? From what I recall, Rastelli spent almost his whole reign either on trial or behind bars.

Some time after Ferrugia stepped down, so that would be circa 1984. By 1987 when he was found guilty on racketeering charges they had a ruling panel, consisting of Anthony Spero, Sal Vitale and Louie HaHa that lasted until Massino got out of jail in 1992 and was official by that time since Rastelli died the previous year.thekiduknow wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 8:15 am Thanks for the replies, I hadn’t heard that Trinchera was one of the shooters, so they definitely weren’t upset about Galante being hit.

Where was Galante's residence when he was hit and who did he live with? Any word on how many hit she did before he went into the can back in 1959?

Re: joe massino
Phil Rastelli gave Sonny Red and Philly Lucky the Galante hit. They had Big Trin, Sonnys kid Bruno and if I remember correctly Russel Mauro do the actual hit. Sonny and Phil were rewarded with stewardship of Galantes drug operation. As time went by they stared to believe they could do a better job running the family than the perpetually jailed Rastelli. They made some moves and paid for it with their lives.thekiduknow wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 9:21 pm

Thanks! So they were a new faction within the Bonanno’s, rather than a continuation of an older guard, interesting stuff!johnny_scootch wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 9:28 amPhil Rastelli gave Sonny Red and Philly Lucky the Galante hit. Look at all these names, all scary guys.....how the fuck did Joe Bonanno who comes across as a nause of an old man, soft and full of shit, keep all these psychos in line? Well, at least up until the banana wars.
That’s probably it, Bonanno comes across as a week old fool on that 60 minutes thing....but maybe he’s a good actor.
