True, they made a comeback and retook control for a short time between 2012-2015 before they lost control again. If Vito was still alive they would still be firmly in control and perhaps became more powerful than ever but things didn't work out that way.

Halloween scare for a mafia boss in danger

Threatened, Stefano Sollecito refused to stay home alone on October 31, 2015

By Éric Thibault Friday, November 2, 2018 01:00

The former head of the Montreal mafia was afraid that visitors would come to shoot him instead of asking him candy on Halloween three years ago.

This is the result of communications intercepted by the police in Operation Magot in 2015, details of which can now be made public.

Stefano Sollecito, whose court ruled at the head of the Mafia was challenged, was twice notified by the police that rivals wanted his skin that year.

Too risky

"It's not a joke", warned the ex-Rizzuto clan lawyer, Loris Cavaliere, himself convicted of gangsterism in 2017 in this case.

Eight days before Halloween 2015, a worried Sollecito asked his spouse to "open the garage door" of their home because he was coming and "look out the window" to make sure no one was waiting for it, specify judicial documents obtained by Le Journal. .

"His behavior has changed. He was hiding. He often did not sleep at home," Sgt. Det. Sergeant François Lambert of the SPVM testified at Sollecito's release investigation in 2016.

On October 31, 2015, the former leader of the Rizzuto clan was "very shocked" when he arrived at his home in Mascouche and found that the house was empty.

"I came for nothing, I take a risk when I come home and I'm alone. And tonight, it's Halloween ... I'm leaving! See you tomorrow," he wrote to his wife in a text message.

Sollecito was to remember a veteran of the Rizzuto clan, Nicola Varacalli, kidnapped after opening his door to four masked and armed visitors on the night of Halloween 2005.

Wave of attacks

Sollecito had two bulletproof vests at his home when he was arrested on November 19, 2015. He was not on his guard for no reason.

As proof, this meeting of August 28, 2015 where the police spied on him in an Italian cafe with three other mafiosi. Marco Claudio Campellone was assassinated the following month, Marco Pizzi escaped shooters in 2016 and Steve Ovadia died riddled with bullets last summer.

His father, Rocco Sollecito, faithful lieutenant of the late godfather Vito Rizzuto, was shot dead in Laval in May 2016.

►Stefano Sollecito was released from prison after his father's murder for cancer treatment. He was released from charges against him last winter.

The Montreal Mafia Arms in the United States
Prohibited pistols made in the USA were seized from rival leaders of the Quebec metropolis

Even though they were running Mafia's enemy clans, Leonardo Rizzuto and Raynald Desjardins were arrested with pistols from the same US arms trafficker.

This is the amazing discovery that the police made during Operation Magot targeting the son of the late godfather Vito Rizzuto and other leaders of an alliance between the Mafia, the Hells Angels and street gangs to share the narcotics market in Montreal, Le Journal has learned.

Tension was high in the mafia at the time of this raid, three years ago.

Several of his tenors, including Leonardo Rizzuto and former boss Stefano Sollecito, had already been warned by the police that their heads were priced by rivals.

In the kitchen

On November 19, 2015, the Regional Joint Organized Crime Squad apprehended Rizzuto at his luxurious residence in Laval, as well as conducting a search.

In a kitchen cabinet above the refrigerator, the police found two semi-automatic pistols: a .40 caliber Walther P99 and a 6.35 Browning pistol.

At least one of these prohibited weapons was loaded. The police also seized ammunition, about forty bullets.

The serial numbers of the guns had been made up or removed, as is the case with most firearms circulating in the underworld, to prevent the police from finding their source.

Imported from the United States

Investigators from the Sûreté du Québec, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Montréal and Laval police departments involved in this operation nevertheless managed to find the source by other means.

It is a clandestine supplier from the United States where several strains of organized crime in Quebec have been illegally supplied, according to our information.

As evidence, weapons seized in 2011 at the home of the Caid Desjardins and two of his acolytes during the investigation of the murder of the aspiring sponsor Salvatore Montagna have also been linked to the same American arms dealer, according to our sources.

Hidden in a couch

Desjardins was at the head of a group that was trying to take control of the Montreal mafia at the expense of the Rizzuto clan.

His loaded pistol, whose serial number had been erased by grinding, was hidden inside the lining of a couch in his living room. Desjardins is currently serving a 14-year sentence.

Leonardo Rizzuto - a 49-year-old lawyer practicing at the same office as Loris Cavaliere, sentenced to 34 months for gangsterism and expunged by the Law Society after Operation Magot - will stand trial for possession of prohibited weapons and drugs. November 21, before a judge of the Court of Quebec.

Cocaine in a jacket

The police officers who arrested him also seized five grams of cocaine in bags hidden in the bottom of a Hugo Boss jacket pocket.

They had also found nearly $ 50,000 in his home, including $ 3,000 wrapped in a nylon stocking.

Rizzuto spent 26 months in pre-trial detention before being released from charges of gangsterism and conspiracy against him in this operation.

In February, a judge ruled that he had been illegally wiretapped by police officers who had recorded him unwittingly in his colleague Cavaliere's office.

How will this book be different than his other book about the Montreal mob war that basically seems to cover the same period? It seems like this will be more or less an update.

The latest story seemed to suggest the HA's were in a dispute with Giordano when he was clipped. Could the HA's have killed him?
If I didn't have my case coming up, I would like to come back with you gentlemen when this is over with and really lay the law down what is going on in this country.....
