That's how all of these Ontario murders got started.
Yeah so be careful you don't become one yourself and that articles about your murder (B. from the Blackhand forum shot outside the gym) are posted on the forum. [emoji39]

After the Joseph Bongiovanni indictment that accused the former DEA agent of helping friends connected to IOC in Buffalo since 2008, I began to relook at the 2007 Monty Massimi murder. This murder created a big stir in Buffalo as evidenced by this Buffalo News article:
https://buffalonews.com/2008/09/13/poli ... -homicide/
While police stayed tight-lipped, the shooting has generated heavy interest on an Internet blog about the murder.

The blog was launched just days after Massimi was killed and was still active late Friday. Posts have been rife with innuendo from those claiming to know about the murder.

Nearly 2,200 items have been posted to the blog since its inception and several mentioned Vacanti as being involved in the murder months ago.
Much of the innuendo referenced by this article suggested Sam Vacanti was connected to the mob, this was mob hit, and family members of a New York State Senator were involved in the murder and subsequent cover-up.

I’ve highlighted much of this innuendo in the past, but I hadn’t looked much into the victim’s possible connections to the mob. Here is what I found.

— A Rose (Bunny) Bongiovanni from Las Vegas signed Massimi’s online guest book. We know that Las Vegas Judge Gerard Bongiovanni was accused of taking bribes from associates of the buffalo mob in the late 90’s. Rose writes:
Joal, My dear friend, I just got this terrible news and still cannot believe what I heard. I know of the deep love you have for Monty and cannot imagine what your are going through. Please know that I will be praying for you and your family. Gina, and Minay you will need to be strong for your mother. I pray that God give you all the strength to get through this terrible tragedy.
— It appears Monty Massimi is in a picture with Buffalo raised mobster and Los Angelos mob captain Jimmy Caci. The picture is captioned “Monty & Jimmy on his birthday.”
Monty Massimi and Jimmy Caci.png
Here is the picture and a picture of Caci with Joe Todaro Sr. for comparison.
Todaro & Caci.jpg
—The Cino’s singed his guestbook. Of course we know Stephen Cino Sr. and Bobby Panaro were accused then acquitted of planning the “Fat Herbie” Blitzstein hit in Vegas during the late 90’s. Of recent interest Cino Jr. was convicted for being part of a drug trafficking ring that moved narcotics from Vegas to Western Virginia/Eastern Kentucky. Here is a link to Cino Jr. conviction in Operation Leaving Vegas: https://news3lv.com/news/local/final-de ... t-of-vegas Stephen Cino wrote the following:
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family. although we have not talked in a while, we always did speak of you you often and remember the great time’s we had wen we were younger and also in california. God bless you Monty.
The Cino family.
—The Durante’s singed his guest book. Recently, funeral director Charles Durante died in what was reported as a suspicious manner but was later ruled a suicide. https://buffalonews.com/2019/11/04/amhe ... d-in-road/ The Durante’s have long been involved in Narcotics. Dennis Durant was involved in dealing cocaine: https://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-2nd-circuit/1420202.html Another article: https://buffalonews.com/1997/08/05/drug ... ck-papers/ Toney Durante was arrested in one of the biggest drug rings in WNY that involved individuals like hitman William Koopman who were tied to the Buffalo mob: https://buffalonews.com/1994/12/11/refu ... -21-years/ Another article: https://buffalonews.com/1990/07/16/koop ... -sentence/ Dennis Durante & Family write the following in Monty’s online guestbook:
I was so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow.
—The Billy Alessi singed his guest book and singed it for Buffalo capo Frank “Butch” Bifulco. David Alessi works at La Nova for Joe Todaro Jr. Paolo Alessi is mentioned several time in FBI documents on Joe Todaro Dr. And, Erie County legislator Micael Alessi was Cammilleri’s nephew and became “reluctant” witness against Jimmy Sicurella: https://buffalonews.com/1989/05/07/new- ... i-killing/ Billy Alessi writes:
Billy, and Minay, Our prayers and thoughts are with you,on your tragic loss. Billy, Tony Alessi and Frank Bifulco.

Here is a link to Monty Massimi’s obituary and guestbook: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/ ... d=87075148

—Finally, Rose & Joe Bongiovanni signed Jimmie Caci’s obituary and guestbook. Here is the link: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/ ... 962&page=4 They wrote:
Condolences to the family. Lannie I am sorry for the loss of your dear “Uncle Jimmie”

Giuseppe Gregoraci has committed suicide in an Italian prison. He was arrested in relation to the Canadian ‘ndrangheta Connection operation last July.

He and Vincenzo Muià, who are cousins, were the two 'ndranghetisti from Italy who visited the Greater Toronto Area last year, having arrived on March 31. They met with Angelo Figliomeni in April, possibly with Angelo’s brother Cosimo present.

The wife of deceased soldier Peter A. Magaddino (son of Stefano) just passed away recently. She was also the sister of soldier Charles Montana (who was married to Stefano Magaddino's daughter) and the niece of Buffalo mafia leader John Montana.

--

Also, countless pages ago we were discussing Rochester.

John Montana originally lived in Rochester after arriving from Sicily and before moving to Buffalo. Interestingly, his mother's maiden name was Valenti. Maybe a coincidence, but stands out because of the Rochester connection.

Another similar question like in the other thread...during the 20s and 30s there was a huge Montana clan in Chicago, with John Montana Sr being the first leader and later his son Joe Montana headed their ops mainly around Melrose Park and Taylor St. Joe also had a son John Jr aka Mauro Montana who, same as his dad, was a possible member of the Outfit...so are there any relations?

Lots of Buffalo/Chicago connections during the old days, Morro, the Carlisis etc.

The Buffalo/Rochester Montanas were from Montedoro, so they had ties to the Scranton/Pittston family where many members were from Montedoro but I'm not sure about Chicago. If the Chicago guys were from Montedoro or that area of Caltanissetta province there might be a connection.

There was a Joseph Montana from Castellammare Del Golfo who lived in Chicago during that time. The Montedoro Montanas married into the Castellammaresi in Buffalo, but didn't have their own Castellammarese heritage that I can tell, though.

More on the Buffalo Montanas:

John Montana's brother was a Giuseppe "Joe" Montana (d. 1958), who was older and settled in WNY in the 1910s. Joe has never been confirmed as a member that I know of, but I suspect he may have been one. His brother John was a prominent mafioso, his mafioso son Charles married Stefano Magaddino's daughter, and his own daughter married Magaddino's mafioso son Peter.

When John Montana died, they held a private funeral in his home that had to be extended to accommodate mourners traveling from around the US, Canada, and Palermo. Given the privacy of the event and that mourners came over a period of time, it unfortunately doesn't seem we'll ever see a list of who attended.

When John Montana traveled to Sicily in the 1930s, the manifest lists the cargo he brought with him: an automobile.

Thanks again. Ill try to gather some info on Chicagos Montanas and ill get back to you, although i think that back in the days Antiliar already did some research on that same family...

NickleCity wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2020 1:42 pm The Diplomat was loaned money by AFL-CIO under the direction of Sam Cariola who was head the the union's Western New York Maritime Trades Department while Todaro Sr. was boss. Cariola had previously been put in control of the Hotel and Restaurant Union Local 66 in Buffalo by Magaddino and DeLuca. The Diplomat was eventually purchased by the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union for $8 million.

Additionally, Todaro and Nicholas "Sonny" Mauro had a significant (or maybe complete) interest in the Golden Strand hotel in Florida.

Also, wasn't Joe Jr. on the phone saying, "I own the hotel in Florida," in the Barstool Sports La Nova Pizza review while Dave Portnoy was eating wings?
The Todaros' interest in hotels appears to go back nearly 60 years:

Would suggest that the elder Todaro was either already in the hotel business or had imminent plans to become involved.

In addition to running La Nova during this period, Todaro also sold freezers wholesale and ran a successful Christmas tree lot.
