Re: Nyc last day mafia trip
We went with umberto's.
Was kinda disappointed tho. Even had free wine with it for wifey
NYC is incredibly DIFFERENT since 5 years ago.
Like it's almost back to the oldschool ghetto ness.
OC is deff back.....

Re: Nyc last day mafia trip
I'll start with HARLEM
Harlem is back to being the hood. Deffinetly.
So we rented our room at CENTRAL PARK NORTH (111TH AND LENNOX/MALCOM X BLVD) which in my time (left 7 years ago) was gentrifid already when I left
Well gentrification went backwards and Harlem now is broken down to 3 DIFFERENT kinds now.
EAST HARLEM (spanish harlem aka "el barrio"")
Harlem (which basically was where i was where it starts top of central park or 110th street and the middle avenues where MALCOM X and the radicals were.
And now apparently there's a "WEST HARLEM" which I cannot really comment on it at this time because the farthest I went was 125th street.
Which like said..... At one time was completely gentrified and not a bad area.
Well the good ole ghetto days are back. Including open air drug markets. Which was NEVER a big thing in NYC which is what amazes me
--------
Bronx I went all the way too the 6 train to KINSBORO PLAZA which was deff hood and pj filled
I expected that nothing new in the bronx.
-------
Queens -
Now my Concert was off the R TRAIN @ 36 st right before STEINWAY STOP.
Which was crazy because I lived off STEINWAY like 13 years ago.... The area as far as I'm concerned was same and basically just like KINGS OF QUEENS vibe now.....
Our venue was actually at the NY TIMES 2020 BEST PHOTOGRAPHER AND MOVIE STUDIO OF 2020 whatever that means exactly so we we're at some high class stuff
------
Brooklyn
Williamsburg
was kinda odd bc it was very dead when we got there ( around 8pm on a Wednesday ) n it should have been great time.
Like we were starving bc we just landed and we were right off the J Train Marcy stop which has allways been a jumping spot and we could not find anything.... It really put me in a off vibe for the first night of the trip .....
Bushwick / williamsburg / ridgewood queens border off the L train was great for me. It was a thriving radio area and it was right next to some big time stuff for hip hop including THE SWEAT SHOP and we did a awesome ass radio interview
-------
Little italy in Manhattan is strictly mulberry street obviously and they had actually got lucky bc all the restaurants have built like corona proof stalls in the street.... So it actually brought back a nice little italy vibe if you actually sit down and eat and just listrn to everything around you.
LES still has the Turkish Baths that the Russian looking Mafiyosi hang out .... So interesting that was noticable.
-------
Now..... As for the question about OC and NYC ....
I have no reason to try and convince anyone or anything.... And everyone knows what I do for a living..... (Rap industry) .....
Mafia is there and doing fine.

You know..... Funny we just discussed asian racism....
Because TODAYS AMpress talks about some asian pride march because of recent rash VIOLENT attacks on asians.
Just saying.
Yay for mafia tho! Glad in NYC we still will have discussions to come.

Everytime I put on the news and another 78 year old bottle collecting chinese lady gets punched directly in the back of the head you can bet it’s a black guy who did it especially if the news makes absolutely no mention of the perpetrators race.
The one or two times it was a white guy they play up the white supremacy angle like it was a kkk lynching in the Deep South.

Re: Nyc last day mafia trip
Pretty far off topic here but I'll throw my hat in the ring before this whole thing gets deleted...
I think what's going on is kind of funny because it was years and years and years of people complaining about how NY had turned soft and lost it's edge, turned into one big Disneyland, etc.
Now it's had a pretty small and an unsurprising upswing in crime, during a year in which society and the economy (which were already on the brink to begin with) went to complete shit, and everybody - cheered on by sensationalist clickbait shit-rags like the Post, and other online fear-mongering click grifters - all of a sudden think it's like The Warriors out there again.
Frankly it's getting tiring. I was out of town at the beginning of April and was introduced to somebody who said "I'm sorry" to me when they found out I'm from NY. They themselves had personally never visited or had been in their entire life, but said "they've heard about all the craziness with the crime and the politics". It seems like everyone from every 2 horse town across the country has a lot of expertise when it comes to DiBlasio (who is a piece of garbage that literally nobody here likes) or the Patrolmen's Union all of a sudden. It's funny.
I have a few NYPD friends , including a close one who is a super conservative Cop's Cop, and even as somebody who's actually on the front lines has said the whole Asian attacks thing is completely overblown by the media
Also another funny thing is the bill that the Democrats proposed to 'stop asian hate' or whatever. Assaults are already illegal, targeting somebody for assault based on ethnicity is already extremely illegal - so the bill itself serves no purpose other than to funnel money back to the police (ostensibly for "hate crime training") - so for all the people - including uninformed police themselves - out there who think these machine Dems want to defund the police, they are literally doing the opposite.
It's not complete lawlessness out there. I've been riding the train for most of my life and besides a fight between teenagers and the random vagrant I've never seen or have been a part of anything crazy. They have it sounding like you can't walk down the street at night anymore and it's the furthest thing from the truth. As if targeting gang based shootings in certain areas of Brooklyn have anything to do with the general public. I'm really sick of it.

Umbertos really isn't that good to begin with though. Survives on the tourism trade and nostalgia/history - phones it in on the food. Wouldn't say it's bad, but not great - even for that little strip. If you're dead set on that area, maybe La Mela or Puglia (if it's still open) might do you one better.JeremyTheJew wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 7:25 am We went with umberto's.

But if you're looking for a red sauce place that is stereotypically mobbed up - you absolutely have to go to Parkside. It's a given. I mean, why not? Or take it even further and go out to Howard Beach and go to the clam place, Lenny's. Lot of regular run of the mill connected neighborhood guys go there and if you're into clams, seafood, all of that- it's a good spot. Very far off the beaten path if you're relying on the train to get around though - might have to uber or drive.
If you've already had your red sauce fill and don't want to do Parkside, go out to that neighborhood during the day and stop by Leo's for a hero at least.

Been following NYPD hate crimes on twitter. Nutjobs kicking, punching, molesting, yelling racial slurs & profanities at Asians. Most of these committed by blacks. Perhaps statistically it's overblown, but scrolling through the twitter feed ALL the attacks are against Asians. Nuts. And this is all bc of Covid? Trump? I don't get it.newera_212 wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 6:29 pm I have a few NYPD friends , including a close one who is a super conservative Cop's Cop, and even as somebody who's actually on the front lines has said the whole Asian attacks thing is completely overblown by the media

Don't forget the Harrassment and Menacing stats! And Subway Fuckery. These are all legitimate crimes being tracked. Numbers available at the DOJ website.

Yes the new spot for Umberto's (third move that I know of) is probably the worst spot they had.
The other two that I remembered were corner spots with much better locations and bigger too
Honestly I felt that Umberto's isn't gonna last much longer and that's why I wanted to eat there. My wifey apparently does listen to me when I talk too bc she recognized the name as well.
And like I said... The "Maitre' de"was annoying as all hell..... So that kinda put a ripple in the atmosphere.... "Ladies.... Free sangria with lunch".... He kept saying that in julia roberts brothers voice over and over....
