Whether or not Dallas still exists today isn't known and can't be ruled out as a possibility. It would be an argument from silence to assert with full certitude that it died out based on a lack of prosecutions. At best we can say that it seems likely that it is, but the most effective crime family is the one operates without being detected.
You love trying to ruin threads. I guess you missed the point of the thread. Cavita asking for direction and also the fact that there has been multiple times through rockfords almost 100 year existence that they have been labeled defunct but ended up not being. Trying not to make this a 5000 page thread on the viability of a family and what factors have to be present to make it viable. Rockford had a major bookmaking indictment 15 years ago and all those guys are still alive and out of jail. Joe Saladino who was listed as a lieutenant under Zammuto is still alive and out and about. Dallas has had no activity since basically Civello’s death besides the Campisi family”s legal problems which include drug trafficking over 10 years ago and by getting busted for running a million dollars sports book a couple years ago Scott D. did say LoScalzo after being made boss of Tampa met with Sam Campisi in Dallas in the late 1980s for whatever that is worth.

Not even a well-reasoned statement from a great mafia historian is exempt from pointless condescension. Some people contribute to discussions, others don't.

You can't have a discussion about small, historic US families at all on this board without the same arguments -- no interest in research or discussion, just dead-ends and roadblocks from the same person who has no constructive goal except to control the discussion.

--

Back to Rockford, NE mafia member Biagio DiGiacomo's naturalization was sponsored by a Boston-based Buscemi from Aragona. There was a small colony from Aragona near Boston and I believe Cavita found evidence the Boston Buscemis were relatives of Frank Buscemi.

I asked someone knowledgeable on Boston about who might have recruited DiGiacomo into the New England family, and he didn't know, but thought it might have been Sam Granito. I don't think Granito was Sicilian but was a well-connected, influential figure. There aren't many known members of Sicilian heritage in the NE family after a certain point.

Salvatore Caruana was at least an associate and some have speculated member close to the Patriarca leadership who went missing and was never found. His heritage was from Agrigento province, but I haven't been able to confirm if it was Argona -- it might have been. If so, that's a possible connection to DiGiacomo.

In the 70s it was
Boss: Joe Zammuto
Underboss: Frank Buscemi
Consigliere: Joe Zito
Capo: Charles Vince

In the 80s it gets confusing. 1984 intelligence said that Frank Buscemi was the day to day boss with Zammuto having the final say but was more of a consigliere. They had Charles Vince as the underboss and Sebastian Gulotta as capo.
I say confusing because 1980s FBI files stated Zammuto was the absolute boss and every 80s file on Buscemi always listed him as underboss. I have 1981 FBI files that said Charles Vince was a "ranking member possibly in the capacity of acting boss" while Zammuto was in Florida.
Thanks bud, although you didnt understand my question since i was asking which family represented Rockford on the commission during the 70s and early 80s, unless they had their own rep during that same time period? Was it Chicago?

Yes, in hamden, ct, allegedly. About 20 minutes from my house. It was buried along with two others, all allegedly by a guy with the last name Beedle. He owned a repair and locksmith business. In the hartford courant it says 15 Jean Street to be exact. A Sal D'Aquila Jr got pinched in that as well. Its not Reggio?

Gotcha. My misunderstanding. I thought you meant who represented them locally. Yes, as far as nationally Chicago would have stood up for them at any commission meeting.

Thanks again bud and believe me the previous info was also quite informative.

Back in the days you and I found a lot of info regarding connections or collaborations between the Outfit and Rockford, especially with the Outfits North Side faction. I also think that later some info came out that Rockford was allegedly under the jurisdiction of the old Northsiders and i dont remember if it went the exact same way, although even if its true, we still need some additional info so we can finally confirm this.

I also know that the Outfit once tried to influence over the decision of making a new boss for the Rockford fam but they allegedly didnt succeed in doing it, although it seems they once "owned" Rockfords #2 spot through Buscemi. We also have Aiuppa coming to funerals in Rockford etc.

My question is, do you have any information regarding some possible transfer of connections from the Northsiders to the 26th/Chinatown crew? Or the whole Outfit was always completely open for all Rockford connections/members and vice versa. Im asking this because i have few additional questions after these....

Over the years their connections we're all over the place. Rocco Pranno had dealings with them in the early 60s as well as Anthony Perotti. You had Zammuto and Buscemi observed meeting with Charles English in 1966. A reporter friend of mine interviewed Robert Cooley and he stated he represented Sal DeLaurentis in Rockford regarding a gambling bust in the early 80s. The boys working with the 26th Street Crew, etc. It seemed they worked freely with guys from all over Chicagoland.

Yes, both Zammuto and Buscemi had cousins from the Boston/Waltham, Massachusetts area. I get the feeling Biagio DiGiacomo is related to the Rockford DiGiacomo guys as well. In one FBI file I found a reference to an Antonino DiGiacomo from Boston who was murdered about 1977 and the file stated just prior to his death he was living in Aragona.
What I'm doing right now is working on a list of Rockford guys that immigrated to Rockford from Sicily starting around 1965. The list won't be complete but I'll try as best I can.

Ok, lets say that the Outfit represented Rockford until both Aiuppa and Cerone were still active or until the mid 80s. Later we know that the Outfit had tough times in representing any family from around the midwest out of obvious reasons but it seems that the connection was still there through the Cicero and Chinatown crews aka one of the Outfits leading factions at the time.

I also compared some of the other midwest families with Rockford and their relations to Chicago, and to tell you the truth there many similarities regarding most of the illegal operations but it seems that Chicago had some "special" respect towards Rockford.

So does this tells us that the Outfit still tried to receive additional influence over Rockford or there was something more to it?

We already have two examples in which Rockford proved its independence but the whole "commission representing" thing and other situations are still throwing some shadow over the whole Chicago-Rockford relationship....

The 1970s and on were the "dead years." More recent events are clearly a sign of a resurgent Dallas mob.

Interesting observation. I'm wondering if Chicago was the only "Commission" that Rockford took their voice to and it stopped in the Windy City. On another note, I don't recall seeing anywhere that the call for Milwaukee's introduction to the Bonnano group in '78 had to go through Chicago. It appeared that Riela directly called Zito in Rockford for that to happen rather than Riela contacting Accardo for example first.
Also interesting is during Appalachian in 1957, LCN boss Tony Musso couldn't attend because of his health so he requested Frank Zito from Springfield represent them, not Chicago.

Again the prosecutor said it right in the article that this bookmaking ring was not an OC operation. But keep wishing for a Rockford family to still be kicking.
