We see a good deal of beatings, some of them severe, come up in recent cases and investigations. This is my opinion, but most people don't grow up these days getting in as many fights and taking beatings, so I would be willing to bet a beating has a much stronger impact today than it did in decades past. Even in my Dad's high school days there was boxing. You would never have seen that when I was in high school.
The punishment is also much softer than murder, so it seems like the mafia uses this to its advantage. Someone who takes a beating is also less likely to cooperate. I doubt beatings are more common now, only that the mafia may use other physical violence today when in the past the same circumstances would lead to murder.
Why don’t the LCN put out hits on people anymore?
