Even in my city in Brazil Outfit was , do you have any information about what they did?

They had a building in Sao Paolo for storage purposes and also formed two Brazilian vending corporations and opened up jobs. The first corporation was known as the Touristal and the second one as The Valley of Brazil and so these two Chicago Outfit-connected corporations held a protective shield on the market because it was in the same basket with the current regime. They had a contact with the President of Brazil and his regime regarding the introduction of that country into all types of vending, slot and music machines since the country was a huge market. Besides the President of Brazil, also present were the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the National Police Force. The problem was the lack of coinage in Brazil as the country more relied on paper currency at the time and so they found a solution and asked for permission from Brazil’s top administration to mint nine million coins in three different denominations to operate the new devices. So the group managed to mint the coins in denominations of 1, 2, and 5, worth approximately 7 cents, 16 cents and 35 cents. It was fabulous scheme. But the Outfit used the same tactic as the Mob previously used in the old Cuban conflict, by also supporting the opposition of the current regime in Brazil. In the end, the deal between the Outfit and Brazil’s top administration profited between 100 and 150 million dollars. Who would’ve known that Brazil’s vending machine history was connected to the Chicago Outfit, and because of that names such as Rothman, Larner and Ginsburg, were the main ones who exported millions of dollars worth of food, drink and cigarette vending machines in Central and South America.

This is incredible, thanks for the explanation, I did not imagine they had a contect with the president, do you know where I can read more about it? I was quite interested, especially if it was all in the 50s-70s.

@Frank I dont think so, since the whole operation occurred during the late 60's while Giancana was brought back in 1973 i think. At the time or during the years of 73 and 74 Giancana had meetings with numerous mobsters so I doubt that he was killed over the money in Brasil. Also at the time Giancana was no more the official boss but instead he was one of their main reps outside the country who in turn possibly oversaw guys like Circella, Tortoriello, Larner, Drew, Lederer, Rothman etc. According to some FBI files, this particular group was allegedly called the "Combine" and they were mostly involved in international operations but they also controlled many operations all around the U.S. Other former bosses wh were also involved in this group were Eddie Vogel, Gus Alex and Les Kruse, and in addition, this crew was allegedly formed while Giancana was still the official boss of the Outfit so in plane words, it was his own "child".

I lived my first 24 years in Wheaton, I'll. 1957 to 81. I wonder what they had going on there.

I think that the town was just a part of a huge car theft ring which spread all around the state and was mainly under the auspices of the Outfit. I dont believe there were any made guys stationed there but instead there were probably some associates who possibly owned some chop shops and were also involved in car theft. I also think that Alderisio was also arrested as a youngster for car theft in that same area

I'm building a map of NE territories and it got alot more in depth than I envisioned and all I really have remaining is NYC and rather than list Family Names I might include a larger NYC map to the right of the NE US map and map it out by neighborhood.. if we can do the remaining? Otherwise I avoid getting that detailed since I was primarily concerned with Boston down to Baltimore, Newark to Detroit.
