Greeting to everyone. For those who are unfamiliar with me, I am from Québec province, Canada, and I am the author of some books on the history of organized crime in Montréal and in Québec.Lupara wrote:Things have been interesting since 2009.dixiemafia wrote:Things will get interesting now with Giordano falling.
To go along with this thread, I would say that things began to be interesting in the Mafia of Montréal the day when Vito Rizzuto was arrested for murder, on January 20, 2004. From there on, and ever since then, the Rizzuto organization never ceased to collapse with piles of copses on the streets. The peak, in my opinion was reached in December 2009, and then in November 2010, with the murders of the two Nicolos, Jr. and Sr.
The murder of Lorenzo Giordano yesterday is very signifiant. Part of the Arcadi crew, he was the first one to fall, among those who were convicted in october 2008 following the Colisée roundup. Giordano is apparently the one who was plotting the murder of Salvatore Cazzetta, the alleged leader of the Hells Angels in Québec. Police as it is rule, duly informed Cazzetta of the plot.
As Daniel Renaud, crime reporter for the La Presse, and I agree with his statement, the Mafia of Montréal will never come back as what it used to be in the past, i.e. long dynasties reigns like the Cotronis (mid 1950s to mid 1980s) and the Rizzutos, from 1984 to November 2010. The Rizzuto organization has become now history.
I will not be surprised to see that the next one to go, and it is just a matter of time, it will be Francesco Arcadi.
