Things have been interesting since 2009. :)
Greeting to everyone. For those who are unfamiliar with me, I am from Québec province, Canada, and I am the author of some books on the history of organized crime in Montréal and in Québec.

To go along with this thread, I would say that things began to be interesting in the Mafia of Montréal the day when Vito Rizzuto was arrested for murder, on January 20, 2004. From there on, and ever since then, the Rizzuto organization never ceased to collapse with piles of copses on the streets. The peak, in my opinion was reached in December 2009, and then in November 2010, with the murders of the two Nicolos, Jr. and Sr.

The murder of Lorenzo Giordano yesterday is very signifiant. Part of the Arcadi crew, he was the first one to fall, among those who were convicted in october 2008 following the Colisée roundup. Giordano is apparently the one who was plotting the murder of Salvatore Cazzetta, the alleged leader of the Hells Angels in Québec. Police as it is rule, duly informed Cazzetta of the plot.

As Daniel Renaud, crime reporter for the La Presse, and I agree with his statement, the Mafia of Montréal will never come back as what it used to be in the past, i.e. long dynasties reigns like the Cotronis (mid 1950s to mid 1980s) and the Rizzutos, from 1984 to November 2010. The Rizzuto organization has become now history.

I will not be surprised to see that the next one to go, and it is just a matter of time, it will be Francesco Arcadi.

It is nice to see you posting here Laurentian. Welcome to the forum! 8-)

And you're right that things became interesting with Vito's incarceration, but I only started following it shortly after the murder of Nick, Jr.

Interesting stuff about Cazzetta as well. Could that mean that he was killed by the round table after all?

Thank you for your words of welcome, Lupara.

By the round Table? Could be. It is a possibility. But quite frankly, I do not know so far.

By theory they're all interlinked. But Giordano was under Arcadi, and apart of his crew. Arcadi in the past was aligned with the Rizzutos, but once Vito went away, its said Arcadi began to lose trust amongst some of the Sicilians, and that he didnt treat the street gangs and bikers very well. Its my personal theory that he may have been behind the murder threat of Leonardo Rizzuto & Stefano Sollecito. But thats just me.

And its interesting Giordano is now reportedly the one who was behind the threat on Cazzetta's life. Project MAGOT & MASTIF's chart implies that Leonardo, Stefano, Cazzetta & Wooley were all allies in the drug trade. Looks like my theory of the table (mainly Leonardo & Stefano) moving on Giordano as a response to Arcadi and the Del Balso arrest, which may have been what showed them that Arcadi and his faction were making in roads into their market, may hold some weight after all. I'm not saying this is indeed the case , just my theory.

Good to see you on the boards, Laurentian.

I just can't see them as one family. Laurentian said it plain as day to me, Rizzutos are done. In theory interlinked, by cases? Charts? Different faction are different gangs, just because its Italian doesn't mean a damn thing. Its 2016 but if two guys get a speeding ticket in the same part of town they must've been having a meeting GTFOH. Jump on me I don't care.

This article says that with the murder of Giornado there have some 25 murders in the mafia in six years.

However I wished I could see a compilation from the journalist on this.

To take such a preventive measure, it shows how high is the tension within the Montréal Mob.

I don't think anyone is going to jump on you for sharing your opinion. And like I said on the other forum, there have always been two factions within the Montreal Mafia according to Canadian authorities, which is really all one could go on really. The Calabrian group and the Sicilian group. There's been cases throughout history where those two groups have worked with one another and things have been amicable, there's been instances where they haven't been. And I agree with Laurentian, in the sense that overall leadership belonging to one or two people, the Rizzutos are done, and I've said that before on other forums. But like I said this is most likely about drugs, you can't consider things in a traditional LCN sense, Leonardo & Stefano may have those involved in the underworld milieu, including those who sit with them amongst this so called table, who simply may find them easier to work with than Arcadi's group. And depending on which reporter and law enforcement document you want to believe, that may be the case, seeing as before he was sentenced for operation Colisee, it was said that Arcadi wasn't treating the street gangs or the bikers like they had been treated in the past when Vito was in charge. And that supposedly angered some people, including those within the Montreal Mafia. What I don't get however is how one can just discredit law enforcement all the time, granted they aren't always right, but they'd know more than the average person, they have wiretaps and various other things which supported their belief that Leonardo Rizzuto & Stefano Sollecito were the top guys at the time of their arrest and were aligned with Cazzetta and Wooley.

And wow, thats huge, Arcadi & Del Balso being returned to prison for their safety. Thats what authorities said when they arrested Leonardo and Stefano. The arrest supposedly likely saved their lives. Either theres a rogue group doing this and are taking out both parties, or it simply comes from the Stefano & Leonardo side, or those whom like I said, simply may be more comfortable working with them sitting amongst everybody. Someone on another forum posed a theory from a translated article that this may be a purge from the Ontario, Toronto 'Ndrangheta. Thats possible too but I dont know if I find it likely.

Nobody discredits that Leonardo and Sollecito are the leaders. A couple of years ago I stated that I believed that Stefano Sollecito was groomed as Vito's successor. When Leonardo was placed as co-leader it came as a suprise to many of us. It does make some sense because his family has hold a grip on the Montreal Mafia for decades and as Vito's only surviving son he represents his father's legacy.

The way I see it is that Leonardo overees his family's interests while Sollecito is in charge of the muscle-end and street operations of the organization.

It might have been on GBB but someone said they thought Rizzuto/Sollecito was out to kill Cazzetta and to me it didn't make sense. Now like has been said the threat seems to be coming from Arcadi side towards the two leaders. The 62 kilo bust in America was very sloppy but huge in Montreal because it seems they were trying to prove they could bring it in without Rizzuto/Sollecito's connections. Doesn't make much sense though, it would have been hard to smuggle 62 keys across the Canadian border unless he knows a pig trail that went through the Indian reservations.
If I didn't have my case coming up, I would like to come back with you gentlemen when this is over with and really lay the law down what is going on in this country.....
