See now that he passed away in 2020. Did he stay a captain for a long time?thegunners wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 11:14 am What is the status today of Funaris son that is mentioned, "Jumbo" funari?

He was never a full captain, he was an acting captain for a brief time and only because of who his father was.thegunners wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 11:21 am See now that he passed away in 2020. Did he stay a captain for a long time?

Thank you for sharingHairyKnuckles wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 10:47 amI went through the files and found the FBI report dated 1969.Little_Al1991 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 1:38 amI haven’t seen anything which indicates that he was promoted to Capo during the 60s but it’s certainly feasible that it did occurHairyKnuckles wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 9:42 pm Very interesting and thanks for posting this.
I am sure that the FBI listed Furnari as a skipper already in the early 1960s. Not impossible that he stepped down as skipper sometime later and made a skipper again in the 1970s, if that is the case.
I’ve seen a document which stated that it was the early 70s, if I remember correctly, il have to find that again
So, according to this report, Funari was a skipper by 1969. This suggests that he was made a captain sometime in the 1960s.

Other FBI reports also says the same.
I have read about two Funari associates named Teddy (LNU) and Louis (LNU) who killed three individuals on Funari´s orders sometime in 1968ish. The story was told to the FBI by an CI who also claimed Funari was a skipper.
Vario and Furnari were the only 2 Captains who were located in Brooklyn at that time
I wonder why Furnari received the promotion over others

He took over his father’s crew, according to Carew but it was short lived as eventually, he was banished to Floridathegunners wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 11:21 amSee now that he passed away in 2020. I think the other guys are right and Furnari became a captain much earlier than 1977. I'd bet Carew is mixing up when Furnari became Consigliere in the late 70's as Vinny Beans was on his way out and that's when Carew couldn't drive for him anymore.

I think you're right Scootch...pretty sure I read before Furnari became consigliere around '77...johnny_scootch wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 2:55 pmI think the other guys are right and Furnari became a captain much earlier than 1977. Sounds like he could have still had a crew under him as consigliere. Not uncommon at all for an admin member to have members or a full decina direct with him. Casso was newly made and some new members did get promoted quickly around 76-77 but I could see the crew being split or reporting to Furnari directly for a time.
1977 would make sense for his stepping up to consigliere. It was reported during that period that induction ceremonies were delayed due to Foceri's failing health. A new official consigliere doesn't always immediately follow the last one stepping down (the Colombo's didn't have an official consigliere between 1959 and 1964) but that is around the time a transition was happening. If I remember right, Corallo might not have become official boss until later too as a CI reported that Tramunti was still boss a ways into his incarceration.

1977 or 1980 it’s all basically the same timeframe. When guys are recalling events that happened 25, 30 years previous everything becomes plus or minus 5 years at least.

Wonder what "special" cases he would've brought up.They closed the books from 1957 until the mid 70s unless it was a special thing you know like –
*then he was cut of before he could finish what he could say*

I’ve read that when Furnari became the Consigliere, he only had Casso reporting to him.B. wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 4:48 pm Sounds like he could have still had a crew under him as consigliere. Amuso became the Captain of Furnari’s crew after he became Consigliere and it seems that Jumbo took over the crew for a short while after Amuso became the boss
The 19th Hole was eventually merged with the Bensonhurst crew if I remember correctly

He appealed a decision to deny him parole during 2014 which resulted in him suddenly being released on compassionate grounds due to his age and medical conditions.Pmac2 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 5:53 pm christy tic becomes consig in 1980 amuso takes his place. this is how christy tick got free because he wasnt in the administration when the commission decided to whack carmine galante. even thou it came out later it was rustelli call.greg scarpa also reported 1980
The DOJ agreed to change his PSI in order to mention that he didn’t kill Galante but also wrote in separate document that they don’t want him to be released since it doesn’t change the fact that he participated in other murders which can be corroborated by Casso,Carew and D’Arco

Does anyone know the Joey "toye" that John Pennisi referred who was Dominic Truscello 's crew than transfered to Joe Cafe's and then back.
