Or did anything about it; appears the guy is still in L.I. and commuting to and from Fla. Can we agree this whole "thing" is a joke?

Judge Block refused to consider Pennisis testimony... does that mean just in this case or all cases?

Of course I think it's funny. All this hocus pocus bullsh*t

There are several possibilities John Carlucci, John Mirabile, John DeSena, John Contello, John Spirito Jr, John Zancocchio, John Sciremammano, John Palazzolo, John Licata & John Cicala.

If Zummo an Acting Captain conducted the ceremony if you can call it that it probably means this ‘John’ was just a soldier. I think the really old guys like Palazzolo and Licata can be eliminated but if any of the other guys can be linked to the Pipitone crew at that time we may have found our guy.
Is the ceremony valid?

If not, at what point:

1. does the ceremony become invalid (including when the ceremony is taking place, given the inductee is actively deceiving the Bonanno Family)?
2. is the ceremony considered invalid by the Bonanno Family? by other Families?
3. does the Bonanno Family issue a declaration that the ceremony is invalid? (How it's issued is also a question I have.)

Genuinely looking for answers and/or opinions here.

Yes this is the first time Zummo has been identified as a rat.

Morena was the rat who was inducted by Zummo that was caught in tape.
Technically, if Morena contacted the RCMP from Italy and offered to work for them as a paid police agent, is he a rat?

Genuinely looking for opinions here.

Incidentally, we already know from Stephen Metelsky's last published article that Morena moved to Hamilton in 2013. Now, with the publication of this week's Gang Land, we know that Morena was a paid police agent for five years, i.e., from 2012 to 2017.

The ceremony was recognized by the Bonannos, Buffalo, and apparently the Gambinos so it was a valid ceremony, just like Massino's induction in the back of a crowded bar and the quick roadside induction he himself conducted. The most important thing is that a new member is recognized within Cosa Nostra. Whether or not the actual ceremony was a disgrace is another question and most would agree the expedited verbal induction of a cooperator in a messy hotel room reflects badly on those involved.

Because Morena was an existing associate of the life rather than a member of law enforcement he is certainly a "rat" but he's a unique one in that his police agent status allowed him to instigate situations rather than just report them. On the American side there have been many informants who instigate certain situations though, so it's not completely black and white.

More rats from the Bonnano’s. The Genovese must think is it worth doing business with these guys as all they seem to bring is trouble. Cosa Nostra in America seems like a ramshackle compared to the days of old.

I feel like he was probably on thin ice. They probably had him on the shelf and that's why he didn't make any major cases he was on the street except a gambling pinch. Which you ask yourself they let 2 kingpins skate to catch a few bookies?

For two guys to drive eight or nine hours non stop from New York for a 15 minute session to take care of business and get it done and then drive back to New York was viewed here as a very critical and significant event," said Metelsky.

This part doesn't make sense they would have had to meet with at least one other mafia member up there so Morena could get introduced around town as a member. They couldn't have just driven up made Morena and got right in the car drove back like this statement makes it seem. Add the fact that Zummo or this John LNU would have to have been previously introduced to whoever they introduced Morena to.
Yeah Violi was said to be present as well. I suspect the reason Violi was there was so they could introduce Morena as Amico Nostra and Violi would be able to facilitate any introductions to other Canadian mobsters.

Zancocchio informed Buffalo about Morena's induction in 2015 while he was consig correct? Might imply that he is John LNU? Unless I have the timelines mixed up

This is plausible, but it seems that Violi might not have been in a rush to make introductions to particular guys. Morena’s ceremony took place on Nov. 15, 2015. Violi offered in September 2016 to introduce Morena to Frank Arcadi, Tony Mucci, and Frankie Cotroni (son of Frank Cotroni Sr.).

Agreed, but I was wondering out loud as to why Violi would wait so long to introduce a newly minted Bonanno to at least a couple of guys — Arcadi and Mucci — who have been strongly suspected for decades of being men of honour, presumably in the Bonanno Family. I want to say that the delay was because of Violi’s two uncles’ warning him that Morena is a screw. I’ve wondered whether Nat and Rocco Luppino mostly kept their suspicions about Morena to themselves or told the right guys who would want to know about Morena’s behaviour and inquisitiveness.
