You might be thinking of Game Tax defendant John "Johnny Bananas" Sciarrotta, who was busted for trying to buy cocaine from an undercover federal agent in March 2019. His status doesn't seem to have ever been confirmed by LE but Gangster Report has him down as a soldier in this article:
https://gangsterreport.com/motown-mafia ... -20-piece/

His current release date from the BOP is 12/17/2031

This might've been it although I feel like the age was younger and they were listed as an associate.

I think it was explained as a bastardized pronunciation of his last name (Baratta).

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Does anyone know if Angelo Lonardo said Cleveland was on the original 1931 commission? If he did, could you link where he said it or just quote him?

There’s a few threads that have a lot of breakdowns but you might have to search thru the forums for key words like : LA FAMILY , Bompensiero, etc

Do we have any evidence that the Chicago family didn't "make guys like New York"? I know we know by the 80's they did, but I'll often hear "well that didn't start until Aiuppa was Boss since he was more traditional". But do we have any proof that they never did before this?

It’s up for debate in terms of the ceremony part. However, the more researchers dig in the more it seems likely that Chicago used a traditional ceremony at least the vast majority of the time. What we know for certain is that being ”made” was very difficult to obtain, and was a secretive and not publicized thing.

The issue with the outfit is that virtually all of the information and insight comes from individuals who were not made members. You are probably aware there’s only been one confirmed made individual, Nick Calabrese, that flipped in the early 2000’s, and even he wasn’t fully clued in or 100% certain concerning all the happenings at the top of the organization.

The more we learn the more it seems that Chicago more or less followed the traditional LCN protocols, while structuring the organization slightly differently in terms of power structure and chain of command when compared to NYC.

- The whole Family was supposed to get together, candidates were announced (some say the consigliere was supposed to do this), then each member voted. People could vote for different candidates but at the end they all had to unanimously agree to support the guy who won.

- As Families stopped being able to meet as a whole group, the captains would meet with their crew, discuss the candidates, then each member would vote. Like above, they were apparently expected to all agree at the end. Then a meeting of the captains was held were each captain casted a vote for his crew.

- The mafia had a "no campaigning" rule where a member couldn't meet with other members to encourage them to vote for him. This was obviously broken all the time and the Commission was fine with it as long as nobody had a serious problem with the candidate.

As you'd expect some elections were manipulated behind the scenes and basically predetermined. Also voting in a small Family is going to be much different than voting in big Families like NYC.

When Nick Licata was elected boss of LA, captain Al Polizzi basically controlled the vote as he had the most soldiers and would sway the outcome. The leaders also met privately beforehand and agreed to elect Licata because they felt LE heat made it impossible to properly meet and reorganize the Family so they'd be better off maintaining the status quo given Licata was already underboss.

Thanks, it almost sounds like a union election
