John Pennisi makes no sense, when he first popped out according to him, Michael DeSantis said he was the “future” of the family.

But the man never touched not even 100K, was ordered by the administration at the time to assault some guy but couldn’t do that & someone else had to do it, and the reason he got made was one of the dumbest ways i’ve seen. They didn’t know if he was reliable, or an earner. All they knew is this guy killed someone over some booty in 1990.

What was dumb about it? He was a guy that did 18 years in prison and he was childhood friends with the bosses son in law plus a bunch of other made guys that he knew from his neighbourhood. A lot of guys get straightened out for similar reasons. It wasn't unusual.

Its stupid, no wonder the mob declined.

Nothing is more credible in the mob then spending time in prison with other members. You had no idea what he was going to be like when he got out. It's like if you own a company and you hire someone that looks good on paper, but they turn out to be a douche...like Pennisi. Even if Pennisi didn't rat he wouldn't last.

I agree Pennisi didn't have the body of work behind him to warrant getting straightened out but stupider things have happened. He did a bunch of time he knew the right people and that situation with the Genovese family put him on the fast track.

One thing people don't mention often is how much the Lucchese family valued his extensive connections with the Gambinos, fittingly he became the point man between the 2 families after being made.

I'm remembering a post where someone laid out the 3 categories of mafioso; Killers, earners and politicians.

It's clear which category Pennisi fit into.

Salute bro. That's a good point too - if so many guys refuse to be in his crew, why keep him on as a Captain? Also it's kind of funny that it happened on a smaller scale to Carmine Avellino, with DeSantis writing a letter basically saying he's not going to be a part of that crew anymore. Maybe DeSantis can get the benefit of the doubt and if he was on supervised release or trying to be careful, he didn't want to risk meeting with people to talk about it - but the "resignation letter" is funny

I'm going to double back to some threads here to get more info, because I forget what happened with Big John and the crew, around the time near the indictment. IIRC they gave Delloruso a captain position for new crew, and then he became Underboss after the admin changed over. I don't recall if Big John was taken down because of the indictment too

Not sure if Bluhouse has some more details (I'm definitely interested if so) but I believe Pennisi mentioned himself in one of his vids that there was suspicion he was feeding info to the Gambinos, something to do with a sitdown that the Lucchese's lost...

Speaking of, a lot of Pennisi's mention of sitdowns on his videos, outside of like 1-2 that I can recall, seemed to be about pretty pennyante things.
